Welcome to Summer 2019! We just wrapped up a fabulous Memorial Day weekend here in Virginia. This holiday most importantly celebrates those who have paid the highest price for the freedom we have in this country and honors those that currently serve. This holiday also signifies the beginning of summer, which is my very favorite time of year!

We had a great weekend, thanks to stunningly beautiful weather here (which we don’t always get for Memorial Day) which included graduation, winery trips (2 in fact!), gardening, and I even managed to clean out our garage. My children wrap up school this week (my high schooler is pretty much done) so we are in full blown summer mode now.

Today I thought I’d share some of our summer favorites to help put you in the mood. Last year we moved into our new house smack in the middle of summer so we pretty much spent June packing and July unpacking. It was worth it, but I am excited this year to have more time to do fun things and have family time since my kids seem to be growing up entirely too fast!
So here are some of our very favorite summer things we’ve shared in the previous years.
Click HERE to visit Christy’s Summer Home Tour at the #MCCHouse last year, it was one of our most popular blog posts. I love the lemon accents in her decor. If that isn’t summer I don’t know what is!
Here’s a look at the deck in Christy’s previous home which claimed spectacular golf course views, you can click here to see it both during the day and lit up at night.
If you like outdoor living at this time of year as much as I do, here is a look at my Mother’s beautiful back porch along with an a summer tablescape, you can read the post HERE.
This outfit was hugely popular when we shared it on Instagram last year. It is an easy, throw on summer outfit most of which is on sale right now. You can’t go wrong with a t-shirt and comfortable jeans, just add in a great necklace and classic shoes for comfort with a splash of style.
In our last house, our mudroom in its “Summer” state was another popular post. The space pretty much naturally transitions to whatever season we are in with what gets dropped there, and summer means pool bags and flip flops. You can read more about this closet turned mini-mudroom HERE.
Cool drinks in the summer are always key, and we have two posts about our favorite ice tea recipes. First up is Christy’s Southern Inspired Peach Tea.
This weekend we made our first batch of the season of “Dad’s Tea”, my kids were so happy to see it return. I shared two ice tea recipes here, our popular and kid-friendly ‘Dad’s Tea’ and a healthier antioxidant-rich Green Pomegranate Tea for the adults in the room.
We probably have too many summer food recipes to list, but here are a few of my favorites. Salads are the perfect easy, dinner idea during the warmer months.
Middle Eastern Vegetable Salad from Barefoot Contessa
Yummy Steak and Blue Cheese Salad
Summer is the perfect time to entertain. Above we have a quick and easy Summer Appetizer Recipe. You can also see Christy’s easy guide to entertaining and how she created a DIY Taco Salad Bar, because who doesn’t like tacos?
It has been several years {and several houses!} since this happened, but this post is about how I hosted an easy Summer Girls’ Night Out, that was such a fun evening that featured peach sangria! Something I need to make again soon for sure 🙂
Finally, since relaxing and enjoying summer is what it’s all about, here are some of our favorite cocktail recipes.
Christy’s Husband’s {Delicious!} Mojito Recipe
Just in time for happy hour, especially when you aren’t lucky enough to be on vacation, you should try a Beach Martini! It is a favorite!
As far as summer shopping–the holiday weekend sales are mostly still going on, you can click here to read the post with our favorite finds if you missed it.
Welcome to summer, enjoy!
