Today I’m sharing a few photos of the foyer of our new house; it’s hard to believe it’s been almost a year since we moved in.

I know I haven’t written a post in ages…first of all, many thanks to Amy for doing the heavy lifting over here for the last few months! As most of you know, I went back to work part-time as a hospice nurse last summer, and then in September I went full-time. Guess what? Working full-time takes a lot of time! 😉

Our youngest just finished her junior year in college so it was the right time to go back to work. There’s also so much going on in the world of blogging–sadly, between Google changes and AI, it’s getting really hard to break even with expenses, much less to make any sort of income from it. Reading comments in the blogging groups that we’re in, unfortunately I expect to see a lot of people exiting this business in the near future as it just won’t make financial sense to continue.

But let’s talk about something happier–come on in and see my foyer!

Our foyer is long and narrow. I was just able to hang one of my antique European chandeliers in this space and I love how it looks! I purchased it at the Flohmarkt in Stuttgart (read about that here) and the gentleman I purchased it from had already rewired it, but believe me when I tell you that it was quite an ordeal to get it hung up. Fortunately I’ve been hanging light fixtures for eons, so I didn’t let the differences between Europe and the US stump me for long.

I had to use a medallion to cover up the electrical box since the beautiful brass canopy it came with is only about 3.5″…and I didn’t want to substitute it with a new American one since this one is so lovely.

I have–ahem–seven other ones that I bought over there so hopefully this is just the first of many to grace our space.

Last week I substituted a French writing desk I had in this space for the ubiquitous World Market console table because the desk was just too big and it impeded the flow from the front door into the house. The decor is just what I threw on there and of course will be tweaked…I can already tell that the chinoiserie birdcage needs some books or something underneath so it’s a similar height as the demijohn I bought in Poland.

Some of you may remember this antique coat rack I purchased in Europe for about €80, and of course the French market basket is authentic, too. Sadly, no baguettes are peeking out of the top these days, although I am planning to accompany my husband on a business trip over there in June and may have to bring it along!

As soon as you enter our house, the powder room is directly to the left. I love the faucet and the Carrara marble backsplash. At some point, I’m planning to wallpaper this little room.

Our antique Swedish Mora clock made the trip safely although she is keeping time a wee bit slow…but that’s OK, I just adjust the time every few days.

Thanks for letting me show you the foyer, and thanks for stopping by.
