Amy and I have been promising some photos of our Christmas decor for awhile, and today I’m making good on that promise. I will admit that since we’ve stepped back a bit from “professional” blogging I’ve really enjoyed not having to decorate on a retail calendar. In years past, we’d have our Christmas decorations up and photographed by Halloween or just a few days after. This year, I started to put a few things up before our Thanksgiving guests arrived and then I finished the week after Thanksgiving. It was…heavenly.
I’ve also opted to shoot mostly vignettes this year rather than entire rooms. While our home is really coming together nicely, it’s also not as picture-perfect as it may have been in years past. I’ve been enjoying being back to work but will admit that after giving forty hours a week to that, I don’t have nearly as much time to zhush the house. And that’s OK.
I’ve added a few seasonal touches to every room, whether it’s the front entry:
The powder room:
Or even the guest room:
We have six small trees up in the house (seven if you count the one on the back porch that only has twinkle lights on it) and I’ll share the rest of them another day.
My favorite one this year is our dining room tree that features ornaments collected on all of our travels.
The cast iron tree stand is an antique from Germany.
I didn’t do a huge tree in the living room this year–maybe next year. Last year we were in Costa Rica for Christmas and I didn’t even think about a tree. Or any other decorations.
One tradition that is a constant is my daughter’s Nutcracker tree. We’ve featured it many times over the years and this post has details as to where I found many of the ornaments.
Even though I didn’t take the time to stage, light, and edit these photos, I hope you still enjoy seeing how we’ve decorated at my house.
Thanks for stopping by!
