Happy New Year! This is the time of year when many people’s minds turn to organization, I am sure I am not the only one craving a fresh clean space after the holidays. Today I wanted to recap some of our favorite organization projects, I admit I have the urge to tackle some of our spaces, or will once I finally finish getting all our holiday decor away. Speaking of that, you can read this post with all our decor organizing ideas and tricks!
All our favorite cleaning and organization items are linked in our Amazon storefront here to make it easy for you.
OUR HOME CLEANING CLOSET
You can read all about the Cleaning Closet in our last home in this post. It was a closet off our mudroom, likely designed for coats but I was able to store those elsewhere, so I used this space specifically for cleaning supplies, our vacuum and other household items. A simple to hang, over the door shelf from Elfa (on sale) made it simple to grab a cleaner whenever one was needed.
SPICE DRAWER ORGANIZATION
A few years back I overhauled our spice drawer with some new glass bottles and pretty printable labels (see the post here), and this system is still working great for us. It’s a simple fix but it makes so much more sense than a bunch of random sized jars thrown in a drawer, and it is just much easier to grab what I need while cooking. If you don’t have drawer space, you can use risers in your pantry to neatly display glass bottles.
LAUNDRY ROOM ORGANIZATION
Our laundry room is one of the most used spaces in our home (see it here), Christy designed these free printable laundry labels that make it that much prettier. You can also see how we added inexpensive cabinets in our last home in this post here.
GARAGE ORGANIZATION
My husband built this easy garage storage unit and using the vertical storage above our bikes was huge in adding more space.
DIY OPEN SHELVES
This is an affordable way to add shelving and a pretty display space in your home, and it is also a beginner DIY project. You can see the whole post here. Another way we have built open display shelving is using the pre-cut stair treads available at the home improvement store, you can see that method here. Adding open shelving is a nice way to fill empty wall space, and display pretty things.
CLOSET ORGANIZATION
Here is a
CLOSET ORGANIZATION
January is a great time to clean out your closet. I added IKEA units to the closet in our last home, and spiffed up the space with some peel and stick wallpaper. It made such a difference and it was much easier to keep the space neat and tidy. You can read the whole post here.
ORGANIZE MEDICAL SUPPLIES
This post is from many years ago, when I pulled together two bins one for medicine and one for first aid supplies. These can be tucked in a kitchen cabinet and pulled down as needed. It saved so much cabinet space since this bins have several tiers so you can stack items inside them to maximize storage. Full disclosure: last year I switched the bins out for these plastic drawers and stacked them and they work just great too. I used a drawer on the bottom, and an open bin on the top that you can just reach in. The cabinet I use for these items is high up, so this makes it easier to not have to lift the bins down each time I just need a bandaid or such.
One last project to share and one that is essentially free, I save all my phone and tablet boxes (or other good quality boxes) and line them with scrapbook paper and use them to organize desk drawers. It doesn’t take long and it keeps all the small items neat. You can read this post here.
Happy organizing!
