Earlier this summer I got on an organizing kick, usually that urge hits me in January but there were parts of our home that were starting to drive me crazy and I decided the time had come to tackle them. Creating this organized cleaning closet was the first thing I did. Summer is a good time to knock out a quick project and creating a space for all our cleaning stuff just took a few hours and has made life easier.
One small change that really helped was that I ordered this Elfa Door Rack for the back of the closet door in our mudroom. We have an extra closet here, it’s probably designed to hold coats but we have another closet by the front door and wall hooks in the mudroom which seems to be sufficient for us. I store my cleaning stuff like a vacuum, steam machine, rags, and pet supplies in here. It’s located just off our kitchen which makes it extra convenient to access.
Earlier this year I removed the wire shelf the builder installed in the closet and added two of these narrow shelves on each wall inside, I need to clean the inside part up a bit then I’ll show it all off. I was storing cleaning products in the bins on these shelves but they were hard to get to and piled up in a way so I was never sure what I had. This door rack is a much better solution, I can see what I have and grab what I need. I keep several caddies in the closet too so I can fill one up with supplies if I have a specific cleaning task like a bathroom or dusting.
It is obvious that the years I have stockpiled cleaning supplies, I have a VIP membership with Grove Collaborative and it is one thing less I have to worry about. They ship me the products I use regularly so I don’t run out, and I like to try the seasonal scents they release each quarter. You can see I have built up an assortment of Mrs. Meyer’s Surface Cleaners, if you have to clean you might as well make it fun! Fall is on pre-order now FYI if you are ready for it, I love the Apple Cider scent, though Mint is my very favorite.
I think my favorite thing about this Elfa shelf is that it installs without tools, it literally hangs on the back of a door. This way you can move it with you need be, and it’s so easy to get set up. I feel like I am always putting things together so this was a nice surprise! You can find a lower-priced option HERE too, though I can’t vouch for the quality. The Elfa shelves just snap on and adjust along the door rack so I could store my taller bottles with no issues.
Another quick cleaning find is these blue and white cotton towels, you can get the set for less than $11 and I love having so many on hand. I also love that they all match, but maybe that is just my need for order and that sounds strange to you! :). I also use these white microfiber towels for cleaning they wash up easily and are great for spills. They definitely pay for themselves quickly vs. the cost of ordering paper towels and are better for the environment.
Now, nobody has to ask where to find what they need to clean up a spill, which also helps our family run more smoothly. I don’t love cleaning but having all this organized has made the task much easier, especially with pets and kids and having everyone home during the summer!
