Our Summer Coastal Inspired Guest Room {Amy’s New House}

It is almost summer, the thought of that alone makes me SO happy. I spent some time this week in advance of the holiday weekend and all the fun that comes with this time of year picking up some new items to use throughout the summer when we need a guest room for our visitors.

We actually don’t have a dedicated guest room in our new house. I try to keep things flexible, this is actually normally my younger son’s room (see it HERE) and depending on who is visiting, I’ll move either him out of his room or my daughter out of hers to accommodate guests. It isn’t a problem, at their age half the time my kids are sleeping over at a friend’s house or will be at a camp, especially over summer, or our visitors also have kids so they all camp out in the basement. Worst case we have a couch in our loft (see it HERE) that a teenager can sleep on for a night or two. With my oldest heading to college in just one very short year, and our effort to have only space we use in this house, the plan not to add another bedroom solely for guests made sense for us and it has worked out just fine.

I love the decor in this room so much, the cane headboard and the faux shiplap are trending right now which makes it simple to convert his normal ‘boy’ room into a decorated guest space. I just cleaned off his nightstand and swapped out the bedding for a lighter coverlet and added some boho pillows.

I also moved his sports patent prints off the wall over his bed and added this lightweight mirror to the existing hook. This was an easy update that made the room more appropriate for guests, though I am pretty sure there is a lacrosse stick under the bed but we’ll just ignore that for now!

Now that the weather has turned warm, I have been keeping my eyes open for some fun, summery, textured pillows to add to our ever-growing pillow collection. I found this blue and white one at HomeGoods this week along with some new euro pillows for our bed, which I’ll show you soon.

The bedding goes perfectly with some blue and white china filled with hydrangeas–that’s pretty much all the summer decor I ever need!

I always add a few nice touches before guests arrive, like fresh flowers and a stack of books to read. You can read more tips in Christy’s posts about hosting guests and being a good guest here.

You can shop all the sources for this room below. His headboard is the perfect look for less find of this gorgeous but more expensive headboard.  The nightstand is from HomeGoods.  I also wrote a post last year about my favorite inexpensive sheets, these are always popular with guests.

XO,

    “What’s under the bed stays under the bed! ” I’ve been keeping a mechanics trolley hidden under mine. WE just today completed a six month process to paint all the cabinets in our home white. The trolley allowed me to skoot along the floor without having to get up all the time. Game changer and knee saver. YOur guest room looks lovely. We’ve also made the decision in our retirement home not to keep extra bedrooms for occasional guests. Spaces that are multipurpose and suited to this stage of our lives make more sense.

      That is so wise! I am sure that trolley is a great help, and congratulations on finishing painting your cabinets. Huge accomplishment, I am sure you will enjoy them! XO, Amy

      The room has switched overhead lighting but my plan is to put sconces on the wall on either side of the bed, the nightstands are rather small so this way I save space. I am on the hunt for the perfect ones, in the meantime since it’s light here until almost 9 lighting isn’t really a problem. In the winter that will be another story! Take care Liz, Amy
