If anything this recent time at home has made making your house a home even more important. Today I thought I’d recap some of our easiest and affordable DIY/organization projects if you are looking for your next home improvement task.
We’ve been sharing projects in the home DIY/decor blogging niche for almost 10 years so we have a ton of projects in the archives. While some of these show just how far our photography has come over the years, they still hold value in being simple and easy ways to improve your home and life. So here is a look back at some of our favorite easy projects hopefully to inspire you right now.
How to Install Press + Stick Floor Tile
This is a post from just recently, but a super simple way to make a huge impact in your home is to cover old dated tile with these vinyl peel + stick tiles in a bold pattern. See the entire post about how to do it here. Spoiler alert: I just did this in our kitchen with a backsplash, I’ll show it off soon, it is SO easy to use these.
Garage Organization
Have you tackled your garage yet during the quarantine? That seems to be a popular project around here right now. Last fall my husband built this easy garage storage unit and while after a long winter we have some tidying up to do, this bike rack with the storage above has been huge in adding more space.
DIY Open Shelves
This is one of my all time favorite projects. Not only because it is an affordable way to add shelving and a pretty display space in your home, but also because this is so easy it is a very beginner DIY project. You can see the whole post here. Another way we have built open display shelving is using the pre-cut stair treads available at the home improvement store, you can see that method here.
Add An Affordable Gallery Wall
Here is a project that is less DIY and more crafty, but this affordable botanical gallery wall is a great way to fill up wall space without spending a ton of money. This project uses printable botanicals popped into dollar store frames, but you would never know it from how great it looks.
How To Remove A Large Bathroom Mirror
This must be a fairly popular DIY since it is always one of our top blog posts. A few years back we did a quick update in our master bathroom, including taking down the large builder grade mirror and replacing it with two prettier ones. I found those at HomeGoods but since that isn’t an option right now, you can find similar mirrors here and here, or a very affordable option is also this mirror which I added in our powder room (be sure to check your measurements to ensure you get an appropriate size). You can read the post with our tips for safely removing a large mirror here.
DIY A Backyard Firepit
If you are looking for an easy outdoor project, my husband built our firepit in our last home in one weekend. You can read the whole post about how he did it here. These are definitely getting plenty of use during this time.
Add A Runner To Your Stairs
Here are two projects you can pick from based on your needs. If you have stairs that could use a stair runner, you can see how Christy installed this pretty seagrass runner HERE. If you have a dated stair runner and want to expose your stairs, see how we removed ours to expose the steps in our last home here.
Organize Medical Supplies
Finally, here is an easy project that will save you a ton of space. It’s from years ago, but I quickly pulled together two bins one for medicine and one for first aid supplies. This system is still going strong in our home, I just tuck these up in a kitchen cabinet and can pull them down when we need them. It saved so much cabinet space since this bins have several tiers so you can stack items for maximum storage.
I hope this inspired you to tackle a project! Have a great day.
