I mentioned briefly in last weekend’s post that we just put our Nashville house on the market. We moved away in 2013 and have lived in Savannah, North Carolina, and Kansas since then, and while we have had really amazing tenants (a few of them were even “famous,” as my daughter says), we know that we won’t live there again. So it was time to let someone else enjoy this great house and wonderful neighborhood.
It was a busy week with lots of showings and several offers; we accepted one of them last weekend and so the house is under contract and moving through escrow.
Whenever we leave a house I like to recap some of the best projects we completed there and this home is no exception.
Probably my favorite space was the laundry room; honestly, I still miss it!
My style has really changed since this photo in 2011–and heaven knows I didn’t know a thing about shooting interiors!–but this space is still a great blank canvas with the chandelier, handpainted “wallpaper,” and cafe shelving.
This sweet little space earned us our first magazine feature.
The pantry also got a facelift. It’s a big corner pantry but it was filled with white wire shelves. They’re kind of my nemesis because they just don’t work well with canned goods. Obviously I always work with what I’ve got, but at this house we were able to rip them out and build really nice solid-surface shelving.

And a chandelier. Because, why not?
Pro tip: add turntables or lazy susans to your corner pantry; it makes it so much easier to get to everything!
We also gave the kitchen a pretty big facelift:

My husband and I also built shelving in the master bathroom and added a chandelier over the tub.
While we did lots of other great projects in this house (beadboard in the powder room, sheers on the screened porch, board and batten in the kids’ bath, a glamorous closet makeover, and more), these are definitely my favorite four projects from our time in this house. We’ll miss it but are so glad that a new family is going to get to enjoy it.
Happy Halloween (I just realized I need to go buy candy!!), and thanks for stopping by.

This was a great house and I agree. Wonderful to have a new family love and enjoy it.

Thanks so much, Marty. It’s so much easier to walk away knowing it will be loved by a new family!

A very beautiful home. What would you do differently in the laundry room now? Judy wondering!!! Judycinnc

Hey, Judy–
Back then I had a kind of farmhouse/vintage style that honestly looks a little cluttered to me now. I like the walls and the cafe shelving still, I would just have less stuff on the shelves!
Thank you and take care–

Even when first ‘walking through’ the home link provided last week, I thought wow this is a gorgeous home and lucky the family who buys! Then, of course, fantasizing having a second home in Nashville from living in a Chicago suburb! ha Nevertheless, not surprised the house is sold and congrats to you/family and to the soon-to-be new home owners! I’m sure they are excited and especially with the holidays around the corner!

Julie, that made me laugh! A second house in Nashville is definitely a fun idea if you need a weekend getaway from Chicago! Thanks so much for your kind words about our (former) house. You are correct that moving in just before the holidays is pretty exciting and it will be nice for them to be settled in by then. XO, Christy

A home is such a huge part of the family and so sad to leave each and every one of them…There was certainly many labors of love in that beautiful nashville home.. I am sure that the new family will be so very happy to call this house their home….

Thanks so much, Shirley. I know you understand through recent personal experience how tough it can be to leave a well-loved home behind. Wishing you the very best as you start a new chapter, too!
