A few months ago, I shared photos from yet another beautiful party in Pinehurst, NC, at the home of our friends Mark and Kathie (see it here if you missed it).
I intended to publish a part two much earlier, but the holidays got in the way, as did our sojourn in sunny Costa Rica.
Kathie and I got together for lunch and a little shopping yesterday, which jogged my memory that I still haven’t shared photos of their updated living room.
As a side note, I’ve shared their home on the blog many times before (Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 3); 2018 graduation party; 2021 graduation party; backyard tour). I’ve also shared a New Year’s Eve party that I helped Kathie set up at her husband’s office in downtown Southern Pines. He designed their home and landscaping and in my opinion, their home is always the best advertisement for his many talents!
Friends usually enter through the kitchen door, but for more formal events we use the front door which is the perfect shade of aqua blue:
I didn’t take a shot directly from the front door, but this dresser and mirror combination is on the right side of the entrance as you come in. I have almost the exact same mirror and was able to find this one for Kathie at a thrift shop. I think it works perfectly in this space!
The grand piano has pride of place. Their adult son is a very accomplished pianist and it always gives me such joy to hear him play.
The doors to the left of the piano in the above picture are the ones in the photo below that open from the water feature in the backyard:
The high ceilings and exposed rafters are one of my favorite things about this house. One of these days I’ll get the “before” photos so I can show you all how it looked before Mark got his hands on it. Think 50’s style ranch and you’ll be right on the money.
All of the upholstered furniture is new since the last time I shared this space. Kathie swears she isn’t a decorator, but this room tells us otherwise.
This is one of my favorite homes to visit. Mark and Kathie (and Ila!) are wonderful hosts and I always feel so comfortable here. I think we can all agree that their home and yard are stunning, and every time I visit they’ve made another improvement.
Thanks for letting me share their living room with you, and thanks for stopping by.

I love seeing this house! The outside really speaks to me and the inside is stunning! I love the mirror in the entry, really any mirror! 😊 The ceiling and rafters are incredible! I’m sure it’s a pleasure to stay there.

I agree. If we wind up buying a house that needs updating, I’m going to be calling Mark to help with the plan!
