Each year in January we do what a lot of other bloggers do and look back at the previous year to see what posts our readers liked the best. It is always interesting to see what resonated with all of you. Many years we have shared our top viewed posts of all times, but to be honest those don’t change very much from year to year thanks to search engines and Pinterest. Consistently our top posts are the same as they have been for several years: How to Create Built-In Bookshelves Using IKEA Bookcases and Christy’s post about the Morpheus Skincare Treatment… I am not sure how to analyze the correlation between the two, but then again our content has always been a random mix of home, fashion, entertaining, DIY, recipes and life so we’re pleased that anything we come up with is of that much interest to all of you!

I think it’s more timely to look at which posts of the year you all liked that were written this year, as the older ones with years of search engine juice are hard to compete with after a decade of blogging. Those are the ones I am sharing again today.
Our Most Viewed Posts From 2021

The most viewed post written this year is the post where I researched and shared the builder paint color in our home. I attribute the popularity of this post to the title of it, which was “The Answer to the Number One Question I am Asked” so I’m guessing that the clickbait (sorry!) title might explain some of the draw. Though paint colors are always a popular topic for us, one of our top posts of all times is this post with our favorite gray and white paint colors.

The next most-read post last year was this post where I shared The Quickest Way to Paint an Accent Wall, when I used the color Urbane Bronze (and a favorite painting tool to do it super fast) on the back wall of my husband’s new office. I still love the contrast this easy update created in his new work space.

Our Friday Favorite Finds are always very popular posts, in fact one of the top search terms on our blog is “Friday Favorites”, this post from August was among our most viewed posts. We’ll have to share more along these lines this year, I know I always enjoy seeing what other good things people find and share.

No surprise that another of our most viewed posts was Christy’s German dining room all dressed up for the holidays. The space is beautiful and the holiday touches are just the icing on the cake.

Seasonal decor is always popular, last fall we joined up with a group of blogger’s for a Cozy Home Tour. The next most popular post last year was when I shared my autumn-themed home decor.

Another Fall Tour was also among our most viewed posts, this time it was the post about Christy’s Stuttgart apartment with her cozy decor.

The post where I talked about switching out our bedroom dark gray velvet drapes for inexpensive IKEA cotton ones for summer also was among our top posts. It was an easy change but one that made the room feel much lighter on warmer days.

Our biggest project of the year–our Builder Kitchen Makeover–also made it into our top posts. We finished it up last summer and we’ve been enjoying the space ever since. You can read that post here.

No surprise that rounding out our top posts of the year was the first post Christy wrote about her life in Germany vs. life in the United States. She has since written four other similar posts, you can read them all here. They are interesting look at the subtle (and sometimes not so subtle) differences between the two cultures.
Top Sellers of 2021

Another thing that is fun to look at is what our top selling products are over the year from the items we share. Interestingly enough, almost all of top our recommendations were from this post about White Slipcovered Sofas. We love ours, so I am not surprised (but am honored) to see that many of you took our recommendations when shopping for new couches for your own homes.

Another top seller were the Zella Live-In Leggings, which doesn’t surprise me since I do, literally feel like I live in mine! These are both great quality and comfortable to wear, thus the “live in” title. Zella is my favorite brand for “athleisure wear” and (perfect timing for a healthy January), Nordstrom has it all on sale here.

This versatile Scalloped Cami Top was also among our top sellers last year, it’s still available, on sale and comes in several colors. These look so pretty under a sweater and are a nice way to upstyle a casual look.

The Lush Ruffle Decor Bedspread I used in our summer guest room was also a popular product. I think it’s very nice quality for the price and I like the longer length which is great for hiding everything stored under the bed!
Looks like that is a wrap on 2021! It was an interesting year for sure, I know like many of you it is a year I am happy to have in the rearview mirror, and I am holding on to hope that we’ll all see brighter days in 2022. We’ve shared before it is hard to know some days how to show up here and talk about things that seem frivolous in light of the troubles of the world, but hopefully we provide some fun and a distraction when it is needed. I am trying to refine some thoughts along those lines as we consider what to bring to this space in 2022, but I expect we’ll continue to share the things we love and most of all always aspire to find joy in our day to day living, together.
Happy New Year!
