We definitely have had some fun opportunities since we started blogging oh-so-many years ago. Today I wanted to share a little bit about some of the articles I have been contributing to a local magazine.
The editor of Lifestyle magazines approached me two years ago after Christy and I traveled to the Biltmore to help decorate Christmas trees with Balsam Hill (pretty much the best day ever!), she had seen the press release Balsam Hill had put out about us and the trip and reached out to me to ask if I’d be willing to share some photos of my home in their Christmas issue.
Of course I said yes. This magazine which focuses entirely on our small town is really a great publication, it comes free of charge to all the town mailboxes and is a nice, four-color magazine filled with all sorts of stories of interest.
Last year, again they asked me for more decor photos for the December issue. Since I’d moved into our new house by then, I was able to show off something different from the previous year. Then, as the year progressed, they asked if I’d be willing to share spring and fall-themed photos as well.
Since I am already taking photos for the blog, this isn’t any extra work and actually the print deadlines force me to stay way ahead of things. Fall photos were due in early September, and I’ll have to have Christmas photographed and submitted by early November. This year we decided rather than just sharing holiday decor I’ll be contributing ideas for making your home cozy; during these strange times it seems like a good, relatable topic.
This has been a fun little side project for me, I occasionally have people who know me but have no idea what I also do blogging so it is funny when they comment that they have seen the articles. Really, I love this town so it’s really a joy to be a part of the publication. I’ll be sure to share the December issue when it comes out at the end of the year.
