With over 1200 blog posts in our archives {gosh that is a ton of words and photos!} it is fun to look back every once and awhile on all the projects we’ve shared. I thought today would be the perfect time because hello–June 1st!–to recap some of our favorite summer ideas to help get you in the mood. It always is a little cringy to show pictures from say, five or six years ago when our photography skills were minimal and our blog mostly a social networking thing with other home decor bloggers, but hey, the best projects last the test of time, at least we hope they do! 🙂
DECOR
Some of our decor-related summer posts include my Summer Living Room Update post {you can see this photo was taken before I refinished the coffee table with to make it look Restoration Hardware gray.}
and Christy’s red, white and blue porch inspiration. You can’t go wrong with this color scheme between Memorial Day and the Fourth of July, right?
Speaking of porches, you can see how Christy upgraded her small covered porch and gained privacy by adding inexpensive curtains HERE.
Once upon a time {in an interim rental home} we also had a screen porch, so this was a quick makeover using things we already had so we could enjoy it while we lived there.
Last Summer, Christy added some new decor to her beautiful back deck and showed off how it looks in the evening, you can read about it HERE.
Our mudroom naturally transitions to whatever season we are in based on what gets dropped there, and summer means pool bags and flip flops. You can read more about this closet turned mini-mudroom HERE.
SUMMER REFRESHMENTS
Cool drinks in the summer are always key, and we have two posts about our favorite ice tea recipes. First up is Christy’s Southern Inspired Peach Tea.
Last year I shared two ice tea recipes, our popular and kid-friendly ‘Dad’s Tea’ {that my husband wants to bottle and sell :)} and a healthier anti-oxidant rich Green Pomegranate for the adults in the room.
For another refreshing drink, and one that is crowd-friendly, a few years ago we shared the Southern Breeze punch recipe after we sampled it at the Haven Conference courtesy of Southern Living.
We probably have too many summer food recipes to list, but here are a few of my favorites. Salads are the perfect easy, dinner idea during the warmer months.
Middle Eastern Vegetable Salad from Barefoot Contessa
Yummy Steak and Blue Cheese Salad
ENTERTAINING
In the summer we definitely like to throw parties. You can see Christy’s easy guide to entertaining and how she creates a DIY Taco Salad Bar , because who doesn’t like tacos?
It has been several years ago {and several houses} since this happened, but this post is about how I hosted an easy Summer Girls’ Night Out, that was such a fun evening {with peach sangria!}
DRINKS
Finally, since relaxing and enjoying summer is what it’s all about, here are some of our favorite cocktail recipes.

Hope your summer is off to a great start!
