Spring has definitely sprung around here, and it is so nice! The leaves are out (as is the pollen, but oh well) and the flowers are blooming, the weather makes me happy at this time of year. I mentioned in my last Amazon post that I’d switched out my winter and spring clothes and packed away all the heavy sweaters and scarves in favor of lighter things. I haven’t done as much retail ‘damage’ recently buying new clothes, instead I have been trying to create cute outfits with what is already in my closet.
With that, today I have a few of my recent favorite, go-to, outfits to share. All the pieces are affordable and easy to wear, and I am showing you some variations to dress them up or down. Laying these items out to photograph is always fun, I get new ideas for jewelry, accessories, and ways to mix them up. True story–in my former life (the life before I had kids) I was an account executive at an advertising agency. We worked with several clients in the apparel industry so my job was to manage the creation of their seasonal printed catalogs. When I am creating these ‘flatlays’ for posts like this, as we call them now, I always think back the catalog shoots when the talented stylists created stacks or displays of shirts to showcase all the available colors. They knew how to fold and style things perfectly, now I wish I’d paid better attention to how they worked their magic! So much work goes into photos like that, it was a fun job but such a process at the same time.
Outfit 1. Blue & White Striped Top & White Jeans
I ordered this striped peplum top last spring but a very similar one is on sale for just $20 (shipped) right now. I wore this all last fall and keep reaching for it this spring. The navy and white go with almost anything, it’s fun mixed with the leopard pattern of the shoes. I also sometimes put an olive green vest over this top or wear it with green cargo pants, it is so versatile. This top comes in other colors too and really is a great all-around basic.
I scooped up this fun tank as part of the 3 for $20 sale (which is still going on) and was really surprised by how much I liked it and how many things it pairs with. I photographed it several different ways to show how you can dress this shirt up or down. The outfit above was my travel outfit the day we left for spring break, knowing that day we’d also be touring some colleges that day with my oldest son. It wasn’t a super hot day so a lightweight cardigan was perfect over the tank top that day. The tank is true to size but go up one if you want it a little less fitting. A dressier (and less fitted) option with the same look is HERE.
I also have worn it with pink jeans (above) for a very spring-like look. I think this is a cute outfit for a girls lunch at this time of year.
This $8 tank is also perfect as part of a “Girls Night Out” (or even date night) outfit. Blazers are back in this spring, and I have gotten tons of use out of this white one (mine is several years old but I linked a similar one). These shoes are on sale right now and are the perfect basic summer heel for a wedding, graduation etc.
Above is one more variation of the quintessential spring outfit–you can’t go wrong with white jeans (or white shorts) and a chambray shirt. Layering this cami underneath is a fun twist for a casual look, just add some fun accessories and the outfit looks polished on top of being comfortable.
Outfit 5–Camo T-shirt with Jeans
I mentioned the shirts were 3 for $20 which was such a great deal so I picked up two other tees with the leopard tank including this basic camo t-shirt. I snapped this quick pic of how I wore it today to run around and do errands with just a basic black sweater on top and jeans (these are my favorite brand of jeans and they are on sale right now– FYI). It was sort of gray and gloomy here this morning but on a hotter day I’d wear this top with white jeans and the Miller sandals.
Some other of my favorite things that are on sale and worth mentioning right now…
These flip flops (I really wanted but they are sold out in my size, boo) are on sale so grab them if they still have your size.
Seeing everyone’s pretty Easter pictures made me want to buy a new dress (a little after the fact but still!). I love Rachel Parcell’s dress line that just hit Nordstrom. It’s sweet to see these feminine-looking dresses come back in style, so perfect for spring! I linked my favorites below, I am thinking that the navy bell sleeve would be a great, classic wardrobe piece. All of these are nice for a wedding, graduation or other spring event. I linked my favorites but you can shop the collection here.
The jewelry is so fun too, just in time for Mother’s Day, you can see it all HERE.
