It is spring home tour day! Today we’re joining up with a group of home bloggers to participate in our seasonal home tour, so I am showing you some spring-feeling images in our home. If you arrived here from Tammy at Pink Peppermint Design, welcome! You can read more about us here but in a nutshell we are two long-time friends who have been blogging about things like home decor, entertaining, and fashion favorites for almost ten years. I am Amy and live outside Washington, D.C. Christy is currently living in Germany where her husband is stationed with the U.S. Army so now we’ve added an international perspective to the many homes we’ve shared over the years! Let me also quickly say a huge thank you to our friend Marty from A Stroll Thru Life for coordinating this tour, it’s always a favorite to participate in.
Our Home Decorated for Spring with Touches of Green
While my decor gets an overhaul for the holidays and even for fall, spring calls for more of a few fresh touches here and there. This year I have been drawn to green (which seems to be a very popular color right now) so I deviated from the bright blues I typically like to bring in at this time of year. Instead I just mixed some plants and pops of green into my usual neutral base.
It doesn’t really feel like spring in Virginia quite yet, but after spending much of last month in Florida I am more than ready to feel the warmth and sun. It is still bare and gray here, but slowly but surely signs of spring are starting to appear. Mixing in some fresh greenery (along with faux) makes our home feel less winter-like.
One sidenote, my good camera has finally bit the dust after serving me well photographing for this blog for many years so I took most of these photos with my iPhone (X). I am disappointed in the way colors are washing out. While I do have a neutral color scheme, these photos don’t look as saturated as the colors do in real life. I have to take interior photos mid-day to get enough light since our house faces west, so that makes photographing the rear of our home a little challenging. I suppose the time has come to look into a phone upgrade, the new cameras are supposed to be amazing.
Getting back to spring decor I am happy to say that I feel like this area of our home is finally done. Our new couches are in place, we ripped out the carpets and had hardwood installed earlier this year and I just refinished this pine dresser that belonged to my grandmother to add into empty corner. I am not 100% sure it will stay here (not much is safe when I start rearranging) as it does feel a little too cottage-y for my home, but time will tell.
This moss green velvet pillow (source) set off my spring decorating color scheme this year. I didn’t purchase many items (mostly just new live plants!) and I reused things I already had like this oil painting my great-aunt painted.
As our house doesn’t get much direct sun, it is risky to try to add in real plants. I try to give them some time in my sunny breakfast room window each day to increase their chances of survival indoors. The daffodils smell lovely and really make it feel like spring is on the way.
My husband surprised me with these pretty arranged flowers last week. We were apart for Valentine’s Day so he delayed their shipment until we returned from our trip. They are starting to fade but they have been a nice touch in the kitchen all week.
When I look outside and see the bare trees I have to remind myself that spring is just around the corner. I have the beginning of some bulbs popping up in our front garden, which makes me ridiculously excited. I feel like this year we all really need the hope of spring to bring us out of this hard, long dark winter.
I’ll list all the sources in this room below if you have questions. Now be sure to head on over to Modern Glam to check out all her spring decor next.
