Last week Christy shared some of her holiday decor in her new home, this week it is my turn. We’re running a bit behind in sharing, the years when we participated in holiday home tours our decor posts typically launched the week after Thanksgiving, which did make for a bit of a hectic holiday. I appreciate being able to decorate slowly now, as I have time, and to be honest I am still figuring out what decor looks best in this home.
I have also scaled way back in the amount of decor I use. This house, while similar in size to our last home, doesn’t seem to accommodate as much stuff displayed everywhere. I have a large amount of decorations that I’ll need to go through and donate at some point I suppose. For now I have set up a tree in our family room (below) and our large tree in our foyer (above) and added decor here and there, like in our little entertaining area and on top of some cabinets.
This tree never photographs well, I think it is so much prettier in real life. When we moved in this house, I bought this airy-feeling tree and I keep it very simple with just some special ornaments and some battery-operated candles. I also use a lot of mercury glass in this room, I purchased this long garland and removed all the ornaments, I like them better hanging on the tree and displayed in our vintage brass champagne bucket.
I really love how our mantel came out this year. I found the plaid ribbon at Luckett’s (similar ribbon is here) and made some classic style bows, then I mixed in some greenery, candles and a pretty faux dogwood branch.
I decorate our little entertaining bar (that used to be an elevator shaft), and this year picked up this fun velvet “believe” swag to hang on the cabinets. It was the perfect size for the space.
I am still working on the kitchen, it’s where everyone congregates in our home so it is fun to have it decorated, hopefully I’ll finish that up this week. Just outside our kitchen I keep this cabinet filled with cookbooks, I added a simple wreath on it. I also hang these same wreaths on the front of some of my kitchen cabinets.
Finally, this larger 9′ tree we used in our last home, but it was too big for our current family room. I set it up in the foyer, which is two stories so it’s perfect. I use all my favorite sparkly, gold, silver and blue ornaments in here.
I am still need to hang the staircase garland, I like to use fresh so I have learned the hard way I can’t put it up too early or it’s just a dried up mess. I use beautiful beige velvet bows on it, also sourced from the Lucketts Holiday Market. I just finished the front door with a garland and my new lighted wreath, hopefully we’ll have some nice weather so I can finish hanging all the window wreaths.
I hope you all are having a wonderful holiday season!
