Hello everyone and welcome to Day Three of our Holiday Tour of Homes. If you are coming over from Classic Casual Home, welcome! I am Amy, one half of the team here at 11 Magnolia Lane. I currently live in Virginia with my husband, three kids and two dogs. Christy is the other half of our team (she shared yesterday HERE) and she is currently living in Germany. We were college roommates with remarkably similar styles and have both been blogging here at 11 Magnolia Lane together for almost ten years!
Ten years is a lot of years sharing holiday home decor, but I think that this year our home looks more festive than ever before. If you follow us regularly then you know that I typically use mostly neutrals in our home, we have a light color palate accented with the occasional pop of blue. I went WAY out of my comfort zone this year and brought in reds, tartans and dark greens for our living room Christmas decor.
This just seemed to be the year to do it, I wanted our house to have a nostaglic, traditional feeling this Christmas. With all that this year has brought it seemed like the right time to make it feel warm, bright and cozy.
I have also shared some images of this decor as I used pieces of the Classic Christmas collection from our online Holiday Home Store, including the pretty wired tartan ribbon that really makes our tree stand out. We have a 9′ King of Christmas Tree, and while I decorate several other smaller ones (including a family tree with all the homemade ornaments in our breakfast room) I consider this tree to be our main tree each year.
In addition to the traditional tree decor, this year I added in red velvet pillows, traditional tartan plaid pillows and this gorgeous block print lumbar pillow (from this shop) on our new couches. I love how bright and festive this room feels.
Of course here is Auggie, our Cavalier Spaniel we rescued last year, in case you missed him in the photos. He rarely misses the chance to be front and center when I take pictures, he is the most precious puppy, we adore him. If there was ever a time to have a sweet, cuddly dog come into your life this was definitely the year!
Even though we won’t be hosting our large Christmas party this year or even have family in from out of town, I still wanted to make our home feel special. Our oldest is home from his first semester of college and having everyone home together again is just wonderful. We plan to continue as many family traditions as we can, like our family Gingerbread house contest that is super ridiculously competitive (my boys have their friends vote on social media, fights have been known to break out) and we pick nights to watch our favorite movies like Elf and Vacation together. So much of this year may feel different but I believe it is always important to make the most of this special time.
While the inside of our home is pretty much completely decorated for the holiday, I haven’t done a thing outside so that is my next project. I decorated early in November to meet the deadline for a local magazine I contribute to and for the launch of the online store but I need to make the outside of our home to look as festive as the inside does.
Before I go, here is a look down our hallway to where we have another small tree. I kept this one simple with just a few gold ornaments and some gold beads. This tree is available here and I love the narrow size with the lush branches. This hallway is across from our dining room, where I used blue and silver to decorate in this space.
The Dining Room is where all my glam blue and white decor lands, we host a formal Christmas Eve dinner in here so I like to use a lot of sparkle!
Heading back out of the dining room, and down the hall is our entryway.
Heading down the hallway, I still need to add some greenery to the bottom of the console. This mirror got dressed up with some decor I picked up at my annual trip to the Lucketts Holiday House. This year I found the gold garland and the brass bells. The beautiful green velvet ribbon was a lucky find from last year’s excursion.
Here is a quick look at our mudroom styled for Christmas, this is one of our most used spaces as we go in and out this door all day long. You can see more in this post here.
Upstairs I added just one more tree, a festive blue and white flocked tree in our loft. I had everything on hand and this space off our bedrooms now has some holiday style. You can see our holiday loft space here.
I hope you all enjoyed this look into our Christmas home. I truly love this time of year, not because of the decor and the sparkle but because it symbolizes a new birth, of light breaking through darkness and most importantly– of hope. I know this year is hard for many, but I pray that the joy of the season will be a true part of your holiday.
You can click on any of these items below if you have questions about the sources in our home, more information can also be found on my home tour page HERE.
