I’ve just gotten all of my Christmas decorations packed away.  Isn’t it funny how it feels SO good to do that?  I love pulling them out and decorating for Christmas every year, but then I also love putting them away and going back to a less-is-more look.

The kitchen has been stripped of all its extra greenery and sparkle, so I thought I’d share a few snaps while my counters are marginally clean because IT WON’T LAST!!

I’m currently tweaking the pillows in the living room, so this view will change shortly.  Can you ever have too many throw pillows?  Of course not!

Random aside: our brown and black speckled granite used to get very hazy with the cleaner I was using; last year I started using my own homemade granite cleaner and the difference has been nothing short of amazing!  You can get the recipe and the cute printable labels to go with it in {this} post.

I’ve always tried to keep my counters as uncluttered as possible, but I do like the convenience of having my flour and sugar jars out.  I know some people stash them in their pantries or cupboards, but we cook a lot and it’s just easier to have them out.

By the way, the The Back in the Day Bakery cookbook (affiliate link) on the counter has the absolute best buttercream frosting recipe in it ever.  That was our favorite place to grab a sweet treat when we lived in Savannah–if you ever get down there, be sure to stop in!

The copper lanterns are actually outdoor lanterns, but they look just right over the bar.

After I took the above picture, I had to rearrange the open shelving over the wine fridge and ice maker.  I am constantly working on the shelves!  PS See how you can build them out of pre-fab corbels and a stair tread in {this} post.

I’m going to grab some new dish towels and soap today–am I the only one who thinks a new bottle of dish soap makes all the difference?

I’ll be back next with some updates in the living room, and Amy and I have a trip to New York City together in a week and a half to meet with the folks at HomeGoods about our 2017 partnership.  We’ll be sure to take lots of pictures to share with you!

  1. We switched to all natural cleaners several years back for health reasons, but I do find most of the countertop sprays leave our dark chocolate corian streaky. I’m going to try your granite cleaner to see if that works any better. I love being able to choose the scent you love, or make them seasonal. can’t wait to hear more about you and amy’s partnership with home goods.

As always, it looks fabulous! I can’t wait to get stateside again. You’ve definitely inspired me! Thank you for the cleaner recipe.
