Enjoying Mother’s Day quietly at home this weekend? Me, too, and I have to admit that my idea of heaven is a relaxing afternoon on the porch spent reading a book and sipping a glass of wine.
Whether you’re preparing a meal for Mother’s Day (or passing this post along to someone who will be), keeping things simple but delicious is the goal today.
If you prefer a meal that’s more “breakfasty,” then set out fresh fruit, yogurt, and some store-bought pastries and muffins. We have several wonderful local bakeries that make delicious croissants, cinnamon rolls, and doughnuts, so those are always at the top of my list. Want to make your own cinnamon rolls? My no-fail recipe is {here}.
If you want an alcoholic beverage in addition to your coffee, try a mimosa or a bloody Mary, or our non-alcoholic strawberry basil fruit water.
Another, more traditional option is to serve bacon and waffles (this is seriously the best waffle recipe ever; you make the batter the night before and it’s so light!). This would be a great breakfast in bed option.
If you prefer to make something that’s more savory or typical luncheon fare, you can’t go wrong with this cilantro chicken salad. It’s one of our very favorites and it pairs perfectly with a sliced french baguette and a side of mixed strawberries and blueberries.
No matter how much (or how little!) trouble you go to, take the time to set a pretty table. Use the good china and crystal!

If you’d like to see Amy’s mother’s home tour, we shared it a few years ago. See it here.
And if you’re missing your mom today, you’re not alone. You can read my Mother’s Day tribute to my precious mother here.
Enjoy the day, and thanks for stopping by.
