Today’s post topic was supposed to be “Day in the Life” Quarantine edition, but I am sure that with me being basically stuck in my room, recovering in my bed, my routine is nothing you would want to read about. I also wanted to circle back and update you all on my Covid progress since my first post, but first I want to thank each one of you from the bottom of my heart for your messages, comments and prayers. I am sorry I haven’t answered you all but I have read each of them and they have truly uplifted me during this time.
Before I move on to slightly lighter topics I will quickly fill you all in on what transpired with my health since I wrote the post last Monday. I was optimistic at the time that I was coming to the end of this illness but unfortunately things changed suddenly that evening. I want to be honest about dealing with this disease as there are so many unknowns with this illness, and I think documenting my experience may be helpful to others.
This post is my experience with what is possibly Covid-19. It is not to be considered medical advice, products I am sharing are what have been recommended to me by my medical professional for my situation. Your doctor is your best resource for any health information.
Late Monday evening I started experiencing significant trouble breathing. Though my oxygen levels were (thankfully) still safe I wound up in the emergency room in the middle of the night, which was admittedly scary and frustrating. After tests and evaluation, I was released early the next morning and while my breathing wasn’t improved they did rule out more serious Covid-related respiratory issues. Since then I have made my own conclusion that my breathing issues come from a residual issue (called pulmonary constriction) from Lyme disease being brought on in force by the Covid.
Interestingly enough, I still haven’t been given an official Covid test. When I asked if I would be tested by the ER the nurse said, “We don’t need to, it’s obvious you have it based on your symptoms”, though had I been admitted a test would be required. A test is irrelevant to me at this point, especially with the high number of false negative results, but I do plan to get the antibody test as soon as it is reliable and available.
After Monday, several hard days followed but thanks to help from my lyme practitioner and pushing my supplement routine (1000mg Vit C, 5000 mg Vit D and 30 Mg Zinc) and the Transdermal Glutiathione spray, and I am also drinking bone broth daily, I have gained ground back this week. Healing from this virus seems to be a two steps forward, one step back process but I am celebrating all my gains and trying to be patient. To say I am looking forward to the day when this is all behind me would be an understatement. As of now I am doing better, and am truly hoping that continues to be the case.
I’ll leave it at that, but those readers who found me from mutual Lyme experiences I’d be happy to share more about my treatment protocol, please message. I’ll also again send you to a more medically accurate source, Christy’s cousin Stephanie and her latest post here. She and I have been comparing notes about what we are calling the second wave; her post is much more detailed about her experience dealing with this disease especially for those with underlying health issues.
After all this time recovering in bed, I thought I’d share a bit of what has gotten me through and how we’ve managed to function as a family during this time. While many of the days I have been too sick to do much other than sleep, other days I was able to stay up, read and be on my computer to pass the time. Since most of us are stuck at home with boredom setting in, some of these ideas may be helpful even to those not ill.
I have read so many books on my Kindle most through Kindle Unlimited. My mental capacity was only for lightweight, almost mindless reading and there are a ton of those beach-read type books to chose from. One of my recent favorites (I read this before I was sick) was The Last Bathing Beauty which is a free right now. Of all the books I have read recently this one stands out in my mind as a favorite. I have also read so many Elin HIlderbrand and Nancy Thayer books I have had several dreams that I lived in Nantucket, though I have never even been there. Their books have been a great escape.
I have planned and decorated our deck entirely online from bed. Our deck is currently under construction, they started right as I got sick and are finishing up over the next few days. World Market has all their outdoor furniture for 40% off, so I purchased this table (it is a steal), a rug and some outdoor dining accessories. I can’t wait for it to be done as the back of our home is quite high off the ground so this will give us some outdoor space again. I’m planning a post at the end of the week sharing more about what I designed for the deck so I’ll save the other details for that post.
As I mentioned in my first post, my husband is able to work from home and he’s done an amazing job taking care of me with help from our kids, and my parents have been tremendous too. We’ve been managing to get by with food gifts (blessings to our friends and family that has sent food) and used Instacart delivery to stay stocked with groceries these last few weeks. I found that it was really easy to place an order on Target.com to get all the things that the family was starting to run low on like—shampoo, soap, new toothbrushes, etc. you just have to get to $35 and then the 2 day shipping is free.
At a neighbor’s recommendation, I also signed up for a weekly food delivery from our local farmer’s Co Op. For DC friends, I joined 4P foods (they serve the whole DC area) and now we get locally raised meat and produce dropped off every Thursday. Seems like a good idea to me—-supporting local farmers and reducing grocery trips? To find something similar in your area just google “CSAs near me” or similar.
My only frivolous purchase was that I treated myself to these silk pajamas on sale. (Currently they are 50% with free shipping) I am pretty sure that after living in the ones I own now for three weeks, I’ll only want to burn them once this is all over. These would be a nice Mother’s Day gift too, wouldn’t they?
I also placed a larger online order than usual from Grove.co they are fairly well stocked with cleaning supplies and, as you can imagine, we’ve been going through them at a high rate trying to contain the germs. I am sure we’re all going to keep a larger stockpile of certain things when all this is over. I find it is just easier to order cleaning supplies online than have to remember them at the store (my cleaning routine post is here).
Thank you for reading through this long and a bit random post! These are strange times so it is hard to know what to share and what is helpful. Hopefully we’ll be talking about the lighter side of life again full time very soon. Please stay well friends and thank you for your prayers!
XO,

Thank you for sharing! You are an inspiration. And so nice to see you make your bed even when sick. 🙂

I always make my bed–LOL, not really, but I appreciate you thinking I do. I hope you all are staying well and hanging in there! XO, Amy

Amy,I can’t believe what you’ve gone through and what you’re going through now. What a terrible ordeal. Thank goodness for your wonderfully supportive family and friends. I’ve wondered since your first post if wearing a mask would have helped you avoid this, but earlier on all of us were running essential errands without one. How I wish the recommendation had been what it is now. Thinking of you daily…
Amy says
I wonder that too about the mask of course, but I don’t know that I’ll ever know exactly how I got it. Thank you for your kind words, and I appreciate your well wishes. XO, Amy

Amy, I am so sorry that you are going through this!!!! I cannot imagine! Just reading about your horrific experience with the Virus. Do you have any idea of where you may have contracted it?…In my area, I do not get the luxury of delivery, so I brave the grocery stores with mask and gloves, and cleaning each and every item that comes into the house. I’m OK, but still a bit immune compromised…but I am careful..
I hope that you get better soon! My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family Amy. Makes me happy to know that you feel well enough at times to cyber shop! 🙂
Amy says
Hi Shirley, I hope you are doing well and at least you are staying home in your beautiful new home! So glad for you 🙂 I don’t know where I got the virus, we have some theories but I don’t know if I will ever know for sure. I appreciate the good wishes and am glad that you are well. XO, Amy

Amy, so glad you are feeling better. I will continue to pray for your speedy recovery. (1 Peter 2:24). Also a suggestion, if you are able, go outside and sit in the sun for 10-20 minutes on your good days. Sunlight can really speed your recovery and your mood. Feel good hormones..
God bless you and your family!

I think that is a great idea, I sure wish it would warm up here so I could go outside. I tried to yesterday and it was freezing unfortunately. You can bet I’ll be outside as soon as it is nice enough. Thank you for the scripture, I am grateful! I have been writing down ones on healing so I’ll add this one to my collection. All my best, Amy
