While I know many of us are still getting into the fall mode, somehow in blog-land we always run a little ahead. We all run screaming into the holidays as soon as the pumpkins are put away, so I guess it isn’t much of a surprise that when I started refreshing our bedroom it took on a bit of winter theme.
Recently I’ve been tweaking some of the rooms in our house, the ones that needed a little extra attention. Our master bedroom was definitely on the list, while it has always been decorated, it has never really been given the full-blown makeover treatment most of the other rooms in our house have.
Last summer I added some new bedding, you can see it HERE. That was about the extent of the attention this room has received, which isn’t right considering how much time we spend in our bedroom, is it?
For many years we’ve used a headboard that I DIY’d way back in the early days of this blog (2011 can you believe? So long ago!). While I have looked at other headboards and come close to purchasing a new one several times, since at some point we may upgrade from a queen-sized bed to a king-size a new one always seemed like a waste of money.

However, recently I kept seeing headboard options that were so affordable it seemed like a shame not to upgrade our space even if it wouldn’t be for the long term. I went back and forth between about five headboards (I’ll link them all at the bottom) for several months, but finally decided on this new gray one. At less than $250 shipped, I figured we could always put it in our guest room if we don’t need it in here anymore.
I purchased the headboard HERE and it arrived within days with free shipping. It was a snap to put together and I am impressed with the quality for the price. I also purchased some new organic sheets (here, and they seem to be great for the cost), so we’re feeling very spoiled with our new bedroom set up.
Once the headboard arrived I felt like the room needed just a little more of an update, and I was inspired by the navy pillows in my Instagram friend CC’s pretty bedroom. I picked these blue velvet ones up on sale at Pier 1.
I added a soft throw from HomeGoods along with a fur pillow for some texture. The room looks so much cozier now I think, and the white, gray and dark blue color scheme is perfect for winter.
I moved over this gray chair {see the transformation HERE,} from my office which makes a nice little reading nook in the corner. Our nightstands were an auction find that I painted with chalk paint. I just added some inexpensive bar pulls to them for a more current look.
The mirror, bench, lamps, rug and greek key bedspread came from HomeGoods, but I linked similar ones for you at the end of the post. The greek key pillow shams (which are monogrammed) came from Ballard Designs.
I am already envisioning some holiday decor in this room, my wish list definitely includes a gray fur throw and some silver holiday accents…am I the only one getting excited about the holidays?

Love the updates AMy. What a great price on the headboard. I have been wanting one, but the prices on some are a bit steep.
