Every once in a blue moon we do a joint post and it is usually for something really important like, well a HUGE sale. Christy and I decided to collaborate today to share our favorite picks now that the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is open to everyone (as of 12:30 EDT). We figured this way you can see our different picks and we won’t overwhelm your inbox with more fashion/sale posts than we need to.
We also have access to sales reports and we know what the five most popular items in the sale this year are so we’ll share those with you in a minute for those of you who like the inside scoop. Since my (Amy’s) purchases have already arrived I thought I’d share my thoughts on what I bought (and what I am sending back). I outlined most of my sale picks here in last Friday’s post when the sale went live to cardholders if you missed it.
I quickly styled this outfit above because this sweater was my surprise favorite purchase of the sale (it was also one of the top sellers from our post last week so it is good!). Even my husband, who usually could care less about these things, complimented the sweater. While it’s not exactly a bargain it has that lovely soft, warm cashmere feel. This is one sweater that I know I’ll wear for years to come, either casually like I have it shown above with my favorite jeans or even more dressed up with black pants and heels. This is a real classic and I think at $50 it is worth the price, as the Madewell brand is known for their quality. I also ordered this $12 white tee, I usually grab a new white tee each year during the sale because it is such a great basic to wear under a cardigan year-round.
I have nothing but great things to say about the other items I mentioned in the first post, the Ugg Slippers are such a good deal, and while at first, I was on the fence about really needing the Patagonia Los Gatos jacket, it is so warm and cozy I can see it carrying me through the Friday night football games and the Saturday morning lacrosse games all fall so it’s a keeper.
Here is a shot of the other shirts I ordered. The black sweater on the right is this wrap top, and I actually like it but I would say I would need to size up in it (I got a small) so it is going back. It’s more of a going out/ date night type shirt so I felt like I could pass on it. The henley on the right I am still deciding about, it’s an incredibly soft fabric but the color I ordered is more oatmeal-colored than cream which wasn’t what I expected.
Before I share the top 5 and then let Christy take over, I also wanted to mention the kids’ sale items. I always find great things for back to school at this sale, I purchased the top my daughter is wearing, I know it’s hard to see because of all her hair (more on the puppy and her new room soon!) and she absolutely loves it. It is so soft and the prettiest pink color, Zella is such good quality too. If you have boys this is a must-have jacket, my son is getting it as a birthday gift. Don’t forget to grab Under Armour at a discount as well as Nike for kids, by the time school starts the prices will be much higher.
For those of you who like to know these types of things (some surprised me!) here are the top five items from the Early Access sale:
Vince Camuto | Gigetta Bootie
These pointed toe boots are obviously back in style!
Spanx | Faux Leather Leggings
These leggings are always highly rated, I own a pair of leather leggings and while I don’t consider them everyday wear they are really fun to have for the right occasion. I love them for fall/winter with an oversized sweater!
Barefoot Dreams | Cozy Chic Lite Circle Cardigan
Are we surprised this topped the list?!? This is as I said my all time favorite clothing item, I pretty much live in it. It is a great gift too!
Steve Madden | Feather Studded Loafer
These are growing on me, a great practical but fun shoe.
BP. | Lace Trim Satin Camisole Top
These camisole style tops are very popular under sweaters so I am not surprised to see it make the top five, hopefully they will restock more colors and sizes.
Also worth a mention is the Kennebunk Bliss Throw, we have THREE of these! They are just $25, come in a ton of colors and make a great gift. My daughter can usually be found snuggled under one of these somewhere, she even had one one her Christmas wish list last year. The sale is a great time to buy one (or two, or three!).
***********************
OK, this is Christy now and it’s my turn to share my picks. I’ve been bookmarking items since the sale started but just got around to placing my first order last night. I was busy moving and painting, after all, and not really thinking about buying anything except what I can find at the home improvement store! But, as Amy has said previously, this is the sale where we stock up on our favorite basics at a great price. We are both at the stage of our lives where we buy fewer things but they are higher quality and so this is the best sale for doing that.
Here’s what was in my order last night/this morning (it was 4am so technically this morning!):
This the Barefoot Dreams Travel Shawl in Cocoa and I love how it hangs! They also have black but with the amount of dog hair in my life that seems like a bit of a gamble. Of course I’ll wear it every day, but we travel by plane a lot and I’m always cold when we do, so this will come in handy.
I love a basic tan tote and this one fits my rather exacting specifications. It comes in several colors but I chose Maple Syrup because it will go with everything. I was also looking at this much more expensive one but decided against it. The more expensive one is showing up right now as sold out, so apparently it was pretty popular! They’ll often restock or get returns so if you love that one keep checking back.
Kut From the Kloth jeans usually work really well for me, so I added this pair of ankle skinny jeans to my bag. My daughter tells me light wash is in now but I tell her that’s only for high schoolers!
As a side note, these Rag and Bone jeans are a higher priced alternative but their fit is always perfect and their black doesn’t fade with washing (they run a bit small so size up). I also highly recommend the Spanx faux leather leggings Amy mentioned above or their jeans. This is a great price on them and they’re worth every penny. I am usually a size 4 or 6 but yes, I wear Spanx, too!
These joggers are a great deal and are nice enough to be worn out of the house (I pair them with my Steve Madden loafers). I ordered the darker gray. These come in a huge range of sizes, too.
Last but not least, I ordered these pink gingham Madewell pajamas. I am picky about my PJs and these are cute and 100% cotton. As Amy mentioned above, we love the Madewell brand because their things are, well, made well.
If you prefer short pajamas, they have plenty on sale; try these or these.
Last but never least, here’s one for my husband:
I smelled Spicebomb on my friend/hairstylist Caleb, and literally had to stop him to ask what he was wearing. It’s that good! I’ll give one of the smaller sizes to our son and Chris can have one for home and one for his travel bag.
Now, here are all the things that I’ve bookmarked over the past few weeks. A few of them showed up as being sold out this morning but like I said, they often get returns so it’s worth keeping an eye on things that you love to see if they come back in stock. It’s also a strong argument for getting their credit card as the really great deals never even make it to the public sale (I’m looking at you, Longchamp LePliage tote bag!!). I only have a LOFT card and a Nordstrom card in addition to our Amex so it’s not like I have a wallet full of plastic, but the benefits make sense for me.
My Favorite N Sale picks (I’m hoping those leopard booties are restocked in a size 8!):
Have a great weekend, and thanks for stopping by~

I totally agree that opening the Anniversary Preview is worth opening a Nordstrom’s account. I followed your advice last year and it’s paid off tremendously! I only ordered two things this year..the Home Faux Fur throw in Teal Gazer and it’s amazing~great touch, great color and great size! I also orddered a pair of Kendra Scott Maggie Hoops in gold…and love those as well! It’s a great time to pick up a few extras to treat yourself. I waited too long on the La Pliage tote so it will be on my winter sale list!
