I had plans to show you the Easter and spring decor around the house, but the light is dismal today, so I’ll save that for next week. I’ve been down with the flu for most of the last week. Tamiflu makes me miserable so that wasn’t an option, but the good news is that I’m recovering…
…just in time for the pollen blizzard to hit! No one in our family really suffers from allergies, but the sheer volume of pollen in the air makes it feel like you’re trying to breathe in the middle of a dust storm. We usually wait to do the spring clean up in the yard until after the pollen drops, but I’m itching to get started this year!
In other news, Harley has been pretty sad since Sunny died. Over the past two years, we’ve gone from two dogs, a cat, and a hamster down to just one lonely golden retriever. The good news is that his nice German girlfriend, Mia, comes to visit almost every day to play and cheer him up. Aren’t friends wonderful?
There’s so much fun stuff to do around here, and the Stoneybrook Steeplechase is coming up in a few weeks. Apparently I need to find a fabulous hat similar to what one would wear to The Oaks for the Derby. SO, advice please!
I already have this Lilly Pulitzer dress:
Hat
Or this pink one:
Hat
But, I also have this Boden dress already, too:
Dress
And I think this hat is gorgeous (although it’s more expensive, because my champagne taste is unerring).

Which do you prefer? Pink/navy or gray/yellow? I have a couple of weeks to decide but would love your input.
Be sure to check out (or link up to) our Pretty Project Party {here}–there are some absolutely gorgeous ideas, like this one from Melissa at Polished Habitat!
Have a lovely weekend, and thanks for stopping by–

Love the Lilly dress, so I would chose that one with the pink hat. My daughter’s Theta formal one year had a derby theme. Loved all the wide brim monogram hats with huge bows.

It sounds like that one is definitely winning the vote. I’m looking forward to wearing a hat again–it seems like it’s been ages!

Both dresses (and hats) are gorgeous but I’d go with the pink and navy! So fun!

I think you’d look fantastic in the Lilly dress and uber classy with the navy hat…..some gorgeous earrings and bracelet because the dress can speak for itself!!! How’s that for my two cent’s!

I like the Lilly dress and pink hat.
You are so pretty anything will look beautiful on you.

Harley’s friend Mia looks so much like our Maddie! And I loved the pink hat until I saw the gray one, which is even better! And thanks so much for sharing our bookcases. 🙂

Christy, every other year we have a big Kentucky Derby Party and this is the year. One requirement is that ladies wear hats. It’s so much fun to see what everyone comes up with. I love the Lily dress and normally I would vote for the pink hat, but I think the navy is a better compliment. I hope you get to stay put for another year.

I love the Lily dress and the navy hat…although the Grey hat tugs at my heartstrings too. It has an Audrey Hepburn flair. We too are getting ready for our next assignment which looks like it could be Germany! We should find out soon. Good luck to you all.

I’m sorry you’ve been ill…I’ve had this the past week too. I love the Lilly dress with the pink hat…and the other dress with the grey hat. You would look beautiful in either one! You could carry off any of the hats and be stunning! I so hope you’re able to stay put for another year. The current house is perfection and I can understand your son’s wishes re: school. Oh well, guess we shall see! 🙂 I feel so bad for Harley. They grieve and we can’t explain the “why” to them. Glad he has Mia to occupy some time.

The Lilly dress with the pink hat – for derby hats, the brighter and fancier the better. Feel for Harley, but love Mia, reminds me of a shepard we had when our children were young.

You must check out the Deescrafts.com for Dee’s craft in Louisville, Ky. They are the premier hat maker for the Oaks and the Derby and have some beautiful hats to buy and ideas for making your own. I bought a basic hat at another store and embellished it. It was easy to do and cost a lot less than buying a ready made.

Hmm. Tough choices! Think it is going to depend on your mood. The Pulitzer dress with the pink hat OR The Boden Dress with the grey hat. The grey outfit is the elegant one and the pink the fun one! See, again, depends on your mood or what you are trying to accomplish. I wear a hat everyday and have for 22 years.

I think I’m going with the grey, but it sure was a hard choice! And can I just say that I LOVE that you wear a hat every day? Fabulous!
