Hi everyone!
I have a bunch of small things to share so I thought I’d round them all up into one general “house updates” post, along with some other random fun finds I wanted to share. I hope your weekend is off to a great start! My husband has had back to back work trips so we’re just happy to all be home together again, and I am definitely happy to have reinforcements back on board.
We’re making progress on all those last few things we need to knock out in case we put our house on the market. I haven’t found anything I like enough to get serious about buying yet so we may not move forward right now after all. It has been great to be motivated to finish up all those lingering projects that we never seem to get around too, though after all this work I may want to just stay here after all 🙂
I shared last week on Instagram that I put my teenage son to work helping me rip off our dirty stair runner off on our stairs. It’s still in progress but I am thrilled with how much better our front hall looks. Just a note–I had two flooring “experts” tell me that the stairs would be too faded or torn up from the carpet tack strips to be able to simply expose them, and I think they were both were wrong. I know some of that has to do with the way the sunlight comes in our house but I think they look fine. I should have trusted my gut and done this years ago. We still have to remove the runner on the landing and the back stair case (thus the dirty carpet you see that’s our Labrador’s favorite spot to watch for the very exciting opportunity to bark wildly at someone passing by!), so consider this in progress, we don’t plan to leave it this way.
I also updated my carpet in our family room last week. After more than a year of going back and forth about carpet vs. hardwood we went ahead and had new carpet installed by Home Depot. My husband prevailed that the space needed to be cozy, in that we still have groups of kids flop down to watch movies or play games on the coffee table. While hardwoods would have looked more upscale, carpet was better for our stage of life. I am thrilled with the result, and that’s my gorgeous new art from MINTED, I’ll share more about that soon, I could just stare at it all day!
Last Fall I painted several doors in our kitchen and breakfast room dark gray but I don’t think I ever shared them. They add such great contrast in the space. The color is BM Cobblestone Gray. I went back and forth on gray vs. black but it seemed like the black would be harsh with mostly light colors in this area. This is such a small project that makes a huge difference in how a space looks, I foresee more painted doors in our future.
OK, moving on to other news NOT relating to my mini home decor projects 🙂 Are you following this gorgeous House Flip? And will someone please give this girl her own decorating show?!? I love what she does, and this house has me dreaming of doing something similar (not flipping, just redoing a second/rental home) which makes my husband’s country boy heart sing a happy song. We’ll see, maybe someday 🙂
Finally, here are some fun finds for the weekend…
I am trying to figure out the perfect place {because I know I must have one!} for this Settee. For less than $300 I am sure I can fit it in somewhere 🙂
There are some great fashion sales going on this weekend. I keep seeing this pretty shell and am tempted to order it, it’s so perfect for Spring. You can use the code “NEWNOW” for 40% off right now.
I saw this pretty bag in the store and it’s been sitting in my shopping cart since because I really feel like a new spring bag is going to be in order, especially one that is less then $50 shipped. It is the prettiest blush pink color. This reversible tote bag {which I have in gold/cream and use all the time} is on sale in this pretty silver/gray color, so that is another perfect option for Spring if pink isn’t your thing. {Though if pink isn’t your thing I am not sure we can still be friends ?}
Finally, because I can’t resist sharing a good bargain, this necklace is less than $12 (shipped!); it’s very Kendra Scott-esque without the price tag. I think together the bag, necklace and top would make such a pretty spring outfit especially paired with fabulous pair of jeans {this brand is my favorite, this boyfriend fit is on sale and looks really cute!}.
That’s all for now, I hope you have a beautiful weekend!

I love it all Amy! You are right the stairs look great. They don’t look faded that I can see. I love the grey painted door. Never thought of painting the inside of the door before. And I can’t wait to see where you put the setee! Maybe if the entryway is big enough? Keep up the great work!

Thanks so much Heidi! Have a great day 🙂

The stairs look good, sometimes I think the experts just want to sell more carpet! In my mind, the beauty of wood always outshines carpet.

I think you are right Beverly! I don’t think we want more carpet–I am with you the wood is prettier, even with scratches 🙂
Have a good day!

Hi Amy,
I love the new carpet in your family room! I’d like to change the carpet in our family room and yours is exactly what i’ve had in mind. Do you happen to know the manufacturer , style and color information? Thanks for your help! 🙂
Amy says
Hi Lisa–sure. The carpet is from Home Depot, the Home Decorators collection. The receipt says “multitask” and the color is “workout”, I hope that helps!

I am wondering what type and color of carpet you installed? We have a small den that needs the same carpet replaced. Thank you for letting me know.
