Our county schools were out for almost a week while we waited for the water to recede and everyone’s power to be restored. It was almost like being snowed in–but of course it was in the 90s outside. And I’m not going to lie, while we weren’t complaining about being safe and dry in our house, my daughter and I were just the tiniest bit bored.
We have worked with the folks from I Like That Lamp previously; you’ve probably seen the DIY lampshades that Amy created using their kit:
They’ve branched out into other areas and have recently created a new macrame plant hanger kit (if you haven’t been paying attention, macrame is back and it’s HUGE). The exact kit that they sent me is {available to buy here}, or you can read more about it {details here}. Knowing that we had quite a few uninterrupted hours ahead of us, I pulled out the kit and put my daughter to work.
Here’s what was in the kit:
Annabelle is fifteen so I let her go for it; she didn’t need my assistance for any part of this project, which means I probably could have figured it out, too. Within minutes she had everything unpacked and was starting her project:
Obviously if you have a younger child you might need to give them a hand as they get started, but the instructions were very straightforward and after the first few knots, she really had the hang of it.
It turned out great; boho style is so big right now and this added the perfect touch of it to our decor:
We might have had a tiny disagreement about where to put this little beauty; while it’s photographed in my upstairs office, the ceiling hook is currently empty. Apparently, she’s taken it down to her room!
She goes to school every day, so I will just steal it back while she’s gone!
The I Like That Lamp folks have also created a wall hanging kit in addition to their plant holder kit, or you can buy the wall hanging and the plant holder together. Since we’re coming up on the season of gift-giving, I also have to mention that this would be a great gift idea for anyone who likes a bohemian vibe.
Someone always asks, so here are the sources for my office:
Please let me know if you have any questions about the plant holder, and thanks for stopping by.

She did a great job! Maybe you need to get another kit lol. I will definitely look into getting one.

I know! I was looking forward to trying it, but she was so excited about it that I decided just to watch and learn. 🙂

So great to see our kits being used and loved by teens! Thanks for sharing your project. We’re excited to be branching out to new DIY home decor kits.

I have a feeling these are going to be a bit hit for you guys, Kiri. Thanks for letting me (and Annabelle) try one out!

What a fun project. My Granny always loved to do that kind of thing. It turned out great.

Everything old is new again, right?
