Those of who you follow us on Facebook already know about my latest thrift shop score–this beautiful old dresser.
It was $95 at my favorite thrift shop here in Southern Pines, and as soon as I saw it I knew I would have to find a place for it!
Of course, when you bring one piece in, everything else has to move around a bit, right?
All I did was vacuum out the cobwebs, polish it, and give the hardware a coat of my favorite gold spray paint. It’s a bit distressed and chippy because of its age, but I’m ok with that.
This is right inside my front door, so it’s the focal point as you enter the house. I love having a dresser for my hall table; I store table linens in one drawer, and winter gear (scarves, hats, and gloves) in another.
The “roadside rescue” white dresser that was here before just got moved to a different location in the living room.

And after:
I found the vintage convex mirror when I was in Pennsylvania for my aunt’s funeral; I’ve been looking for one and it made me happy to find one up there in “God’s country,” as my mom always called it.
These drawers are empty and hopefully will stay that way, although I do stash my laptop and calendar in the top drawer at the end of the day.
We’re about to get a new sofa; our slipcovered Pottery Barn sofa has lasted for sixteen years and was worth every single penny, but it’s time for a new one. I’m thinking I’ll replace the big white chair at the same time. We love my husband’s tufted nailhead recliner so much that I might actually buy a second one.
I was also fortunate enough to find an old china cabinet at the same thrift store; my genius friend Ashley suggested that I make it into a bar:
This is such a big room that I easily had room for one more piece of furniture, but as my husband keeps reminding me, the problem will be finding space for it all in our next house! But I’ll worry about that tomorrow, just like Scarlett O’Hara. 🙂
Thanks for stopping by!

I love your new dresser. I have a few vintage pieces in my house and those are the ones people always comment on.
If you work with your area rugs it will make your room look and feel more balanced????

Oh, I love that piece!! The “bar” piece is beautiful too! I always wish I knew the history, who had them, what those people were like, etc. Your room is beautiful and so spacious!
