If you live near the beach, like we do here in Savannah, then consider this part of the essential list of things you own for your trips to the shore. Right along with your chairs, umbrella, towels, and boogie boards, you need a deck (tank) sprayer that you fill with water and put in the back of the car when you head to the beach.

We went to the beach a few weeks ago with our neighbor, Misty. Not only did she make us delicious ham sandwiches (because she’s an *amazing* friend), but she had one of these sprayers in the back of her van, and when the time came to head home, instead of waiting forever for all of these people to rinse off first:

I asked our friends at HomeRight to send me their 3-Gallon Deck-Pro Tank Sprayer, knowing exactly what I was going to do with it. Since I didn’t want to ever use this particular sprayer for stain, varnish, pesticides, or all the other things it was actually created to hold, I designed a vinyl decal using my Silhouette Cameo so we’d be sure just to use it for water. By the way, if you’re a Silhouette user and are interested in a post on how to make this decal, just leave a comment and let me know and I will get on it! Update: click here for the vinyl tutorial, or here if you just want to buy it in our Etsy shop.
The HomeRight sprayer is neat in that it has a carrying strap, plus its navy and white colors are perfectly nautical, too! Here are links for the 3-gallon sprayer and the 1-gallon sprayer:
It’s a snap to stash in the back of your car, and by the time you come back later, the sun has warmed the water so that it feels great. I suppose you could throw some ice cubes in there if you like cold showers, though.
The water stream comes out with enough power to clean the sand off of EVERYTHING, and of course there’s no clean up whatsoever (love!).
Here’s another super idea from Lindsay at Makely School for Girls–use it to fill water balloons! Read more {here}.
Or, use it as a soccer sprayer {here}:
HomeRight is giving away a 3-gallon sprayer to TWO 11 Magnolia Lane readers, and I am giving away a set of vinyl to each winner, as well, so you can trick out your sprayer just like mine. Even if you don’t live at the beach year-round, it’s a great to take with you on vacation!
Or, I suppose you could be boring and stain your deck or fence with it, or spray for bugs, but that just doesn’t sound as fun, now does it?
Thanks for stopping by-

It’s just brilliant, I say!!!
Sometimes the best ideas are the simplest ones!
What a great idea!!
Thanks, Becki!
LOVE this idea!!
What a great idea! Every time we go on vacation to the lake/beach, we end up with lots of sand that ends up in the car. At the end of our vacation, the car looks like a beach. This would be awesome to have.
Hi Christy…..I love this idea!! I have a Silhouette and I would love a post on making the decal!
Stephanie–I will get it written up and posted in the next few weeks. Stay tuned! 🙂
Okay, so that is way more practical than my Paul Bunyan idea. Totally genius!

Jaime–I still laugh when I think about it, though!
This is so smart! I was just talking about using empty, rinsed milk jugs for this very thing! This is a much better and definitely more stylish way to get rid of all that sand from Tybee! And your vinyl design is perfect too. Thanks for the chance to win.
Great idea.. I would love the instruction for the vinyl. BTW, until folks get theirs made and ready for the beach, baby powder sprinkled on your feet helps the sand slide right off.
I’ll be writing the vinyl tutorial up soon, Judi, so stay tuned. Yes, baby powder is a great trick–and it smells good, too!
This is seriously the BEST idea ever! One of those “why didn’t I think of that?” moments. Thanks for the chance to win.
I agree, and of course I can say that since it wasn’t my idea. 🙂
What a great idea!!! Not only for sand but for general feet cleaning after a day at the park! Brilliant!! Love the vinyl too!
Such a great idea!!
Such a great idea!
Love this!!!! There is always so much sand in my car after the beach. So smart!!!
I have got to get one of these for my vintage camper! What a great idea, I camp at the beach and my water supply is limited toa 5 gallon tank so this would really help. I made a cut file of my camper so waves and a camper would look cute! Thanks for sharing.
Found your link thru Makely blog…this is just brilliant! There will be less sand in my van this coming summer. Thanks for sharing.
Hey, Michelle–
So glad you found us! Yes, the sprayer is such a great idea (I can’t claim credit for thinking it up, just making it cute:). We used it constantly last summer and I loved not having to wait for the outdoor showers before hopping in the car.
Hope you come back often!
