It’s summer home tour time again, and today I’m sharing a few last photos of our apartment in Stuttgart, Germany, before we move back to the States at the end of the summer.
Many thanks to Marty at A Stroll Thru Life who organizes this tour four times a year. It’s a ton of work keeping us all organized and on schedule, but she does a great job.
If you’re visiting from Yvonne over at Stone Gable, welcome. I’m a huge fan of her style and the way she uses neutrals and textures, plus I love her Sunday Scripture posts, too.
Welcome to our apartment in Stuttgart, Germany. We knew this would be a short assignment of around two years, so we put a lot of our things into storage in the States before moving over here.
Our apartment is about 2000 square feet, and 3 bedrooms/1.5 baths. It’s quite large by German standards, and since it’s just my husband and myself since last August when our youngest started college in the States, it’s more than enough space.
By the way, if this is your first time visiting, then you can read all about me and my blogging partner, Amy, in this post. We just celebrated our ten year “blog-iversary” but we’ve been friends ever since we were college roommates back in the day.
We spend most of our time in our dining room/living room. It’s not as common here to have open floor plans; most rooms (even the kitchen) have doors so that you can close them off, so this space feels the most like home.
I’ve really enjoyed finding European antiques over here. So far I’ve bought more small pieces than large ones, but I have a Swedish Mora clock that’s being restored right now that will soon be added to our home, and I’m eyeing a few armoires and vitrines that seem to want to come home with us.
I also have a bunch of lovely chandeliers and sconces that I’ve bought, but it doesn’t make sense to hang them for just a few months. I can’t wait to put them up when we get back to the US!
The gold mirror was a Facebook marketplace find over here. It’s 6′ tall and I adore it. It weighs a ton so it’s just propped up against the wall here, but I’ll probably mount it on the wall once we move home.
I’ve also been collecting Delft blue and white tobacco jars; the one below was pressed into service as a vase.
A few other favorite finds are my demijons and the antique rocking horse that I found last fall.
Our dining table can seat eight comfortably and ten uncomfortably, but when we have a smaller number and the weather is nice we try to eat on our balcony because we’ve got a super view of downtown Stuttgart.
The living room and the dining room have the same great view (so does the kitchen, even though I’m not sharing it today), but the balcony is the best. The TV tower in the background of the below photo is probably the most well known Stuttgart landmark.
Yes, those are cherries, and yes, they’re edible–if the birds don’t get to them first.
I’m a little sad to be sharing our last home tour in this space; because of Covid restrictions we didn’t get to do as much traveling as we had hoped, but this home was a wonderful haven during lockdown and we loved every minute we spent here. And if you know anyone moving to the area in a few months, please pass this post along.
If you’d like to see more, you can visit our other home tours {here}. My blog partner Amy and I have lived in over a dozen houses over the years that we’ve been blogging, and we’ve shared tours of most of them right here.
Next, head over to visit Kristin at White Arrows Home. She’s living her best life up on a lake in Wisconsin, and you’ll love her cozy and rustic style.

your apartment is such a fabulous space and the view is amazing. I know you have loved your time in Germany. I love how you have turned your apartment into a home that truly reflects you and your style, not easy to do in a short time. It will be wonderful to see where you land back in the states and a new home to decorate. Thanks for the wonderful tours of Europe while you were there. Thanks also for joining the tour again this season, your home is always such a welcom addition.

Thanks so much, Marty. There’s so much more I wish we could have done–and seen–and bought–but it was still a good two years. I can’t believe how quickly it went by!
Thank you for all of your hard work on the tour. It’s always such a fun week and we’re happy to be included!
