{Giveaway is now closed, follow us on Instagram for our next Nordstrom giveaway Hint: The #NSALE is coming soon!}
Over the last five days, as part of fashion hashtag #seasonwithstyle on Instagram, each of us was challenged to come up with five summer outfits and post one each day. This, of course, is right up my alley because I have been working to up my wardrobe game this year. Since I fall somewhere between 20-something fashion blogger and qualifying for social security, it’s not always easy to know what to wear that is age appropriate but still fashionable and looks good #amiright?
To be as real as I could for this series, I went into my closet and grabbed my five go-to outfits to show you all. I did not order a bunch of things {and send them back after I photographed them} just to show what is “in” right now. I picked classic and basic pieces, and almost all of them are less than $40, and all that I wear regularly. Only my shoes, which I consider investments {though I do not have shelves of shoes}, and one shirt are on the more expensive side but I have cheaper alternatives for you too.
My summer days are often spent driving my kids from place to place, so I admit I may not always have a cute clutch with me or even a necklace on but I included those because wanted to be sure to show you how far a few accessories can take a basic outfit. I hope this is helpful to all of you, I had so much fun putting these outfit together and even gave myself some ideas of new ways to wear what I already have in my closet. In fact, I have not five but EIGHT outfits to show you that will take you from lunch to carpools to casual Friday. {note: I did not include work wear but if that is of interest let me know, I worked in a conservative office for several years so I know the challenge}.
Here we go. For background purposes I primarily shop at 1) Nordstrom 2) Loft 3) Old Navy {because I am always ordering kids clothes and pick up things like the $9 peplum top to get to the free shipping amount!} and rarely 4) Target. Two things are from Stitch Fix, but more on that in a minute.

White Jeans | Shoes | Peplum Top | Clutch | Necklace
I am going to start right here because this is my current favorite, go-to, outfit right now. It’s casual but it can take you almost anywhere. I paid a whopping $9 for the shirt from Old Navy {not that I think you can tell, even though I just told the world!}, and the $11 necklace dresses up the whole outfit. You could also wear this with white shorts for a cute look. My Jack Rogers are several years old and I still love them. If they were good enough for Jackie Kennedy, they are good enough for me, again they have held up perfectly so well worth the price.
Purse | Shoes | Pants | Top {or this Top} | Necklace
My go to this spring was blue and white stripes with pink, this outfit was also an Old Navy sale find. Pink jeans are a great basic when you get tired of wearing white. While this purse is more for colder weather, I wanted to show you how cute this color combination is with leopard! It isn’t what you would expect but it takes it to a whole new level.
White Tee | Clutch | Jeans | Shoes | Necklace
This outfit is basic, basic, basic…white tee, distressed jeans. Safe, cute, and you can’t go wrong. Once you add some accessories, like a necklace that puts the “statement” in “statement necklace” and the pop of color on the clutch, the boring factor is gone. This t-shirt is a bit more than I would normally spend on a tee at $24 but I think it is well worth it. It is a knit material that drapes nicely and looks so much better than your average white tee. You can also wear it with the half-tuck for more sass…and you have heard it before but these jeans, might be my all time favorites {just $34} so comfortable!
boyfriend tee | sandals | jeans | tank | belt | necklace
This outfit was my go-to look last summer but why reinvent the wheel, right? The combination of a basic gray boyfriend tee {another option here} and white skinny jeans pretty much always looks great. If you add a necklace and mix in some leopard and you look styled instead of just like you borrowed your husband’s shirt. This one I wear at least once a week! Just a hint to stock up on these tanks, I wear them under almost everything, they help with too low necklines and protect your clothes.
camo shirt {or less $ here} | sandals | white jeans | tank | necklace
Seriously, do you think this outfit is fun or would you steer clear? I stumbled upon this top in a stylish boutique when traveling last spring and was strangely drawn to it. It’s more of a blue-gray camo then the one in the picture and I think the edgier look is so much fun. As in, you might be driving a minivan but you are still cool, right?! This top is pricey at $39 but I linked a less expensive one for you too. And, the sandals? These knock-offs of the $995 Valentino Rock Studs are way too much fun, they were a great Target find!
top | shoes {similar} or here | navy shorts | purse | necklace
This is the pricier top I mentioned above, it came from Stitch Fix {if you want to request it the brand is Q & A} this is one item that when I wear it, I get compliments. It is on the dressier side so this would be something I would wear out to lunch or dinner or a party. What I think makes it fun for summer is mixing it with cute navy shorts and heeled sandals. I have had these sandals forever, but I linked some similar ones. The heels will extend your legs and the long sleeve top with the shorts is an unexpected twist. The cross body bag is another essential I have had for several years, so nice to toss in phone and keys and go!
** a note about Stitch Fix: I have had upwards of twenty fixes from them, and I think overall the quality of the clothes they send me is excellent. This shirt was $80, I typically wouldn’t spend that much, but I truly loved it. I have found that you must be very specific with your stylist when you leave notes and you’ll have greater success. I will also tell you shoe lovers that they have sent me some great shoes!
top | shoes | capri pants {similar here} | clutch | earrings
Finally, I have a date night outfit for you! If you follow us on Instagram you may have seen I just wore this recently out to dinner. These are white skinny capris {again from Stitch Fix, but this pair is very close} and the top is a pretty blue color. Paired with the strappy sandals and chandelier earrings it is an easy go to for a summer night out. I first paired it with the other leopard clutch, which I liked but the palm seemed more fun for summer. Which one do you like better?
Here is one last fun picture to show you, sorry it is a little grainy, our photographer was 11 and in our haste we didn’t realize the sun was setting right behind us! Last weekend Christy and I got to meet up {basically along the Interstate at a Ruby Tuesdays :)} and our kids got to see each other for the first time in two years. We had such a fun time catching up in person! My top is just $23 and comes in other colors, and Christy’s top is here {on sale!}. How about her fabulous bag? I already have it in my shopping cart in Pink 🙂 How about her cute new car? Love it!

Can I just say…THANK YOU!!!! 11 Magnolia Lane is by far my favorite blog, and I always look forward to yours and Christy’s posts. You both keep things real. I had to laugh, because when I tell my husband about all the “dressing Room Diary” posts and That they don’t purchase or keep all the clothes yet post affiliate links to make money off them, he told me I should post outfits from my closet that have been washed and no longer have the tags on them that I truly own and wear! LOL
I love that you both stick to your values, and most of what you post is accessible to the average family.
And thank you for the heads up on the WHBM jeans…I had not shopped that store in years (before losing weight their clothes just didn’t work for me), but I purchased them in both washes and found a couple other things on sale.

Aw, Lauren thank you! That is so appreciated, venturing into fashion posting makes me so insecure 🙂 It’s lovely to hear you appreciate it. I am glad that just posting regular outfits is helpful! And so glad you love the jeans as much as I do! Thank you sweet friend!!!! XO, Amy

I was so surprised by that last camo t shirt. I thought it had fuzz balls all over it and for that price I would expect more. Otherwise, most of the others are cute.

Nita, you have sharp eyes! The one in the photograph is the less expensive one and you are correct there is a bit of pilling. I couldn’t get the Z Supply shirt in my size originally, but I was glad I could recommend one that wasn’t as pricey. I have hardly noticed the pilling, but it does show more in photos than in real life. Thanks, Amy
