Summer Dining Room in Blue + White

This week we sharing some spaces in our homes decorated for summer. On Thursday Christy will be joining with A Stroll Thru Life and thirty other bloggers for the Summer Home Tour, we’ll all get to see some of her new home which she’s affectionately calling the MCC house {or mint chocolate chip for it’s colorful mint green and brown exterior}. Since my dining room has had it’s time on the blog previously {like HERE and HERE} this isn’t a room reveal post, but I decided recently the room needed a little freshening up with blue and white, just like well, pretty much the rest of my house. That seems to be my theme these days!

I have been slowly collecting Blue Willow china, not because I need any more dishes but because they remind me of our summer camp in Maine {where all the plates are vintage Blue Willow and there are just stacks of them to feed everyone}, it is nice to see the pattern be in style again. Over the years I have picked up pieces here and there, mostly at HomeGoods, but you can also find them HERE. I think the traditional colors mix nicely with pretty much any table setting.

Since our dining room is a neutral gray and white color scheme it is easy to mix things up seasonally, or just when I feel like it. Our walls are Benjamin Moore Moonshine which is a great light gray color. I chalk painted this vintage Drexel table a few years ago, this room doesn’t get used very often, mostly when we need to feed a larger group.

I recently picked up some gold flatware, it’s a steal HERE and adds some sparkle to the table mixed with the other gold accessories that have remained in the room since the holidays.

These hydrangeas are going strong after almost a week, I tried the stems in boiling water trick {alum has been recommended too, but I keep forgetting to buy it at the store!}, my own bushes haven’t taken off in this house so these just came from the grocery store, but they were so lush and full I couldn’t resist picking some up.

This was my first attempt at a ‘naked cake’, which for a frosting loving girl like me, doesn’t make the most sense but it does look pretty. Some fresh blueberries matched perfectly 🙂

I have blogged in other dining room posts about my antique corner cabinet. When I house shop online, my criteria always includes that the house has a corner large enough for this piece. My Dad dragged this cabinet out of a barn on a family property and fixed it up as a newlywed, my parents passed it to my husband and me for our wedding and it’s unlike any piece I have seen. Ideally I’d love to have it in my kitchen to store our every day china so we’d use it more, that is definitely on my wish list for my next house.

Be sure to head over to visit Marty to see all the home tours, we’re featuring them on social media this week as well. Check back with us Thursday to see Christy’s space, I can’t wait to see it! 🙂
