If you visited my home tour a few weeks ago (see it here), then you saw a few shots of my kitchen. It’s definitely compact, which makes it hard to photograph, but it’s been nicely updated with new cabinets and granite countertops.
Yes, I have to store a bunch of my cooking implements downstairs, but we still manage to turn out some pretty yummy meals in here!
As you can see, the kitchen opens to the dining area:
There’s also a small eat in counter, which my kids use all the time.
There are two small windows, one over the sink and one looking out to the backyard and screened porch.
I have had to minimize what stays on the counter so I have enough room to cook.
I also have a kitchen cart that I first bought when we lived in Savannah (so two houses ago) that has provided much-needed extra storage.
The chalkboard wall to the left of the stove is perfect for menus, shopping lists, or just notes for the family.
One thing I’m thinking about doing when I have some free time (ha!) is painting the walls to match the living room and dining room. They’re Oatlands Subtle Beige by Valspar and I think that color might lighten up the kitchen, which tends to be a bit dark. It’s on my summer to-do list.
Here are a few more photos:
That’s it! Small but completely functional. Here are all my sources:

Thank you, Marty! The whole experience of living in this house has taught me just how much I can do with a small space. It’s been fun!

I love it! Reminds me of my first home which was only 1100 square feet. We just inherited a set of ladder back chairs with rush seats. I am looking for a couple of chairs to put with them that have a little more comfort and noticed your cane-back chairs. So, I hopped over to craigslist, searched, and found some. Now, if they still have them at such a reasonable price. Fingers crossed!

Awesome! Ours are SO comfortable and I think we’ve had them for at least ten years now (they were a thrift shop score). I’ve covered and recovered the seats and painted and repainted the backs, but they are still hanging in there. I hope you get your set at a great price!

I have used so many of your decor ideas in my home. Just changed our daughters old bedroom to our upstairs family room. It looks so good.
