One bright light during my days in bed recovering from my illness these last few weeks, was the idea that our new deck would soon be complete. Today I thought I’d share the affordable selections I made (online) to fill our new space.
This is especially exciting for us as we’ve had almost no usable outdoor space for the almost two years we’ve lived in this home. The back of our home sits a full story off the ground, so while we enjoy amazing views of the woods and lake behind us, we couldn’t actually get outside to enjoy them until this project was done.
Last summer I really noticed how hard it was for us to not have an outdoor space. We do have a front porch, and we would sit out there many evenings but it gets direct summer evening sun, so it got hot quickly. This area will be shaded in the evening so a much more ideal place to spend time.
We kept this project very simple, as easy as it would have been to get carried away with it. I didn’t overthink this, as it is hopefully part one of a longer project. Down the road we’d like to build a ground level patio/firepit seating option where the stairs come down to the ground. Though for now this space is more than enough, we can’t wait to get outside and enjoy it.
Over the last few weeks, when I was feeling well enough, I had plenty of time to comb through websites and pick out new furniture. I knew I’d stick with a classic black and white decor scheme out here. If I decide to change it down the road I can easily mix in accent colors but for now I like the clean lines and that the colors won’t compete with the beauty of the trees or the water.
I started planning the decor working around this iron sectional, I’d seen it last year and knew that it was just the classic, simple look I wanted. It is very affordable too. I am hopeful that it will hold up in the elements though I plan to get a cover for when we aren’t using it. I also hope to add the matching arm chairs but sadly they have been sold out. I am keeping an eye out for them to be restocked.
This outdoor dining table was actually the very first thing I purchased as soon as I saw that World Market had all their outdoor furniture at 40% off. It was a steal at less than $250, it has been sitting in our garage waiting to be put outside for weeks. I didn’t include chairs in my inspiration photo because that is the one thing I haven’t decided on, despite looking at just about every option out there I haven’t settled on any yet.
I have looked at probably every available outdoor coffee table and this stone one is by far my favorite, it isn’t the least expensive so I haven’t yet pulled the trigger but so far I can’t find one that I like any better.
I also ordered this cute black and white scalloped umbrella, it is the cherry on the top of the sundae as far as I am concerned, I just love it.
I also have ordered some decorative touches like these pillows above to go on the sectional and this affordable side table below. I also ordered a rug from World Market but I am not sure it has the look I am going for, so I left that out of the design collage. If it works it will be included in the pictures of the final reveal, which will be coming soon!
Like most of you, I am missing HomeGoods/TJ Maxx right now especially as I tried to put together this space. I found that World Market has quite a nice selection of entertaining pieces at comparable prices so I picked up a few new fun outdoor things, like this rattan pitcher and this drink server. I look forward to the day when we can actually have friends or family over to enjoy the space.
Hopefully over the next week we’ll be putting this together, or at least that is the plan though there is 4 days of rain in our forecast (ugh, April showers) but soon we’ll get out there to enjoy it. I look forward to showing you more!

Your post is very timely for me because we are planning a deck rebuild this summer. Would you be able to show a picture of the deck from the yard so we can see how it all matches up to your house?
Amy says
Yes, I will try to get some more pictures for the final reveal post. Thanks! Amy
