Happy weekend everyone! Today’s Operation: Organization post is by Cyndy of The Creativity Exchange. She not only is a talented organizer {and author of the Organizing book Organizing Your Life} but she is an amazingly talented designer too!

Hi guys! I’m Cyndy from The Creativity Exchange and I’m so excited to be here today and sharing a project for Operation Organization. Thank you so much Amy and Christy for inviting me to 11 Magnolia Lane!

I always try and stay one step ahead when it comes to keeping my girl and her room organized because no matter how hard we try, at some point, things will eventually get out of control. I have found over the years that if I take the time to create lots of storage in my daughter’s room, she is so much better about putting things away throughout the school year.

Today, I wanted to share a few quick and easy items that you can add and do in child’s room to help throughout the year with organizing.

1) Candy Jars

Candy jars are a great way to entice kids to putting things away and organizing all that little stuff. For my daughter’s room, we use several of these inexpensive jars for creating an out in the open spot for nail polishes, jewelry, sunglasses, etc.. You can can also spray paint the lids for an extra pop of color (we sprayed my daughter’s gold):

2) Create a homework/workstation cabinet

Designating a couple shelves in a bookshelf or closet to create homework/craft station for papers, supplies and craft supplies is a great way to keep these items together in one area:

3) Decorative Storage Boxes

Those pretty decorative storage boxes are an inexpensive way to create storage. Getting creative and using the boxes without the lids for things like instant file storage (for older kids), stacking notebooks and paper supplies can really help and make a difference:

4) Tool Boxes

Tool boxes are another great way to not only create storage but also create something mobile that the kids tend to use or play with in other areas of the home. Great storage uses could be for craft supplies, smaller games and cards/game pieces, Barbie’s, etc..

5) Jumbo pretzel/cheese ball barrels:

I know it sounds crazy but my favorite organizing trick for kid spaces is to use several of those large barrels that come filled with pretzels/cheese puffs for tossing all that little stuff. Because it’s clear, you and your child can instantly spot items:

I hope there’s an idea here that can help you in some way with helping your child get organized. You can find more of our organizing projects and tips on my blog here.

Thank you so much Amy and Christy for inviting me today!

She has such great ideas–I’ll never throw another large plastic barrel out again, that is brilliant. Thanks, Cyndy!
