The 6 weeks of the One Room Challenge FLEW by! Today is the final “reveal” day, so I am happy to be able to show you our new and improved Powder Room! This is a small room and not the easiest to photograph but I am pleased to finally say that it’s all done. I no longer have to fear a guest asking to “use” the facilities, the room is all ready now. 🙂
If you missed the background, I have joined with over 100 other bloggers in the “One Room Challenge“, where you take one room in your home and make it completely over in 6 weeks’ time. I intentionally chose a small room to do for this challenge, unlike last year where I remade my entire home office barely making it to the reveal finish line in time. {You can see that here}.
Just to flashback to where we started six weeks ago, our first-floor guest bathroom {or powder room, it doesn’t have a shower or tub} was really pretty boring with dark yellow/beige walls and no real decor. It had pretty much stayed how we inherited it when we moved in, so it was long overdue for some freshening up.
You can see the weekly progress posts with more details below:
I started with this as my inspiration board for the space…
Sadly, I ordered the wrong faucet and the new one isn’t here yet so I can’t show you that today. Isn’t there always something?!? The wonderful people at Moen have another one in route to me, and I hope to have it installed later this week. I’ll update photos {you can see it above} as soon as it’s in. It’s really beautiful and the soft polished nickel will look much better than the shiny chrome we currently have.
The wallpaper was my ‘jumping off’ point for the room. This pretty temporary wallpaper has a champagne-colored background {you can find it here} so I kept my focus on keeping things in that same champagne/bronze color scheme. The mirror {it’s available here} started as black, but I spray painted it so it would tie in the room together. I think the soft colors mix well in the small space.
Here is a close up of the wallpaper so you can see how pretty it is.
I added a new bamboo blind to the window {available here and sidenote: I am so impressed by the quality of this blind I am ordering more for our family room} and happily sent the tacky metal shade that was in here to the trash. A small table from HomeGoods holds some decorative accessories and essentials and fills in the empty corner by the window.
I also added a small shelf on the top of the toilet. I intended on hanging a series of art and printables on the wall above it, but I liked this print {it’s our anniversary in roman numerals} leaning on the shelf so much I just left it as-is. It doesn’t cover up the pretty wallpaper this way either. Originally I thought I would build more rustic/industrial shelves in here but decided that they would be too much, and just stuck with this simple shelf set on IKEA brackets.
All in all, participating in these challenges is simply a great motivator to finish decorating a room. Being that I started this challenge while still finishing up my Kitchen makeover, I am pretty pleased it’s also finished. There are always details that need to be tweaked {is any room ever really done?}, like the faucet and I have a fun idea for the empty wall over the table, but at this point that won’t happen until after the holidays.
It’s a nice feeling to have a space that is “guest-ready” now, which is just perfect timing with the holidays around the corner.
Be sure to see all the other room reveals going on today and tomorrow. The designers have just posted their reveals–Paige’s kitchen is a total knock-out, and Mallory’s pretty bedroom is just simply perfection, so you won’t want to miss those.
Phew, this is the point where we pat ourselves on the back, put our feet up and pour a glass of wine! Here’s to checking another room off the list!
Have a great day everyone…

This is SO gorgeous! I love the wallpaper. I did my powder room for the spring ORC and I’m pretty sure we have the exact same powder room (only mine doesn’t have a window). Seriously, those first pictures could have been taken in my house (before I redid the room). Like you, I felt SO embarrassed by the beige-blah room. Yours now looks stunning! And I LOVE the Roman numeral art (might have to steal that idea for a gallery wall in our Master bedroom). Great job!
