One Room Challenge–Office Makeover–Week 5

This is it. It is week 5 of the 6 week One Room Challenge at Calling it Home. Writing a DIY/Decor blog brings all sorts of fun opportunities and this challenge–making over a room in 6 weeks and sharing the progress–has been the best experience. I have virtually ‘met’ so many new blog friends via the challenge, have been touched by the support the community has offered through the process and have been completely inspired creatively. Not to mention, my office is almost done and I am pretty sure that it wouldn’t be 10% of where it is now if I didn’t have the challenge deadlines with weekly posts to create. Motivation!

So this week I am going to hold off showing off too much of my progress as I have finally started to pull everything together–that will all come next week during the week 6 “Reveals” but I did finally get the bookshelves done and up in the space.  When I started this was the inspiration board for the space.

New Office

The black bookshelves are the IKEA Vittsjo bookcases, I knew I would spray them gold from the beginning. They came out beautifully, but I did use a ton (4 cans!) of spray paint {Rustoleum Metallic Gold Paint + Primer}.

I have placed one bookcase on either side of the large window in the room. These IKEA bookcases are super affordable, but they have nice glass shelves and I think they look much classier now that they are gold.

I haven’t really “styled” the shelves or much of the room yet, I am waiting for the console I posted about HERE to be moved up here. Movers are coming next Tuesday to move some large pieces around in our home so I will include that one, I am nothing if not last minute! Once I have all the large pieces in the room I can finally put it all together. I just added some decor to the shelves make the pictures more interesting for today’s purposes.

And since I have ended each post in this series with my curtain drama why stop now? The drapes have certainly been my challenge. I finally decided on a curtains–something different than I posted about–and was thrilled to get the shipping notification that they will arrive tomorrow. Then I looked again at the email and realized I somehow ordered the wrong size, they are only 72″ and will be too short for the windows {insert palm to forehead!} so now I am in a bit of a bind. Though, thanks to my indecisiveness, I actually have another set on the way as well, but they are twice as expensive as the other pair, and just plain white. They may have to do, but we’ll see if I can get a longer set here before next week. Not earth shattering by any means, just today’s little first world decorating problem.

So, with that one minor issue aside the room is nearing completion and I can’t wait to have it together to show off next week during reveal week. {Let’s hope!}. Thanks so much for tagging along through this process and for all the kind words!

That IKEA hack is one of my favorites- the shelves always look so high end once they have that coat of gold! Ugh your curtain dilemma is so something that I would do but I am sure you will get it figured out! Good luck this week!

The gold on the shelves looks amazing! Good luck with the drape dilemma. Your windows are so big and beautiful–what about not hanging the drapes all the way up so that the 72″ still touches the floor? Whatever, I’m just excited to see your reveal! 🙂
