Ugh, hotel lighting is the worst! I just don’t have a better picture of us from our trip to New York last week, this is the only one we took together the whole trip and I look a little sickly ?. Not that we don’t know by now that we need to always make sure to find time to take a few pictures together since Christy and I are so rarely in the same state, this is the best I have.
We thought it would be fun to follow up on our post about the trip we took to New York City last week to talk about what we wore. I find selecting what to pack when I travel to be slightly stressful, and when you know you are heading to NYC to hang out with some of the most respected and influential designers, instagrammers, and bloggers around, not to mention the HomeGoods marketing team, it puts a little pressure on to look your best 🙂
And a quick side note: We know not all our readers love seeing fashion posts, we try to always bring a good mix of lifestyle topics here at 11 Magnolia Lane and we’ll be back with some decorating and organizing posts later this week, promise. On a personal note, I have been working hard to up my wardrobe game this year! I found myself in a bit of a rut–which as an over 40, work-from-home mother of three, it gets easy to slip into a ‘mom uniform’ of sweaters and jeans and leggings and really, too many days spent in yoga pants! Recently I felt the need to embrace this stage of life by trying new styles and taking the time to finish off outfits with jewelry, scarves and accessories in an effort to look more polished. We are also showing more outfits on Instagram, especially sale items which go quick, so if this topic appeals to you please follow us there as well.
Of course Christy is always stylish so I’ll start with her outfit for you first. Our trip really was a whirlwind, we started with sort of a meet and greet wine dinner {it was amazing!} where we got to meet the attendees and HomeGoods folks in person.
Tunic | Shoes | Pants | Necklace
Christy’s evening outfit proves that classics always work best, and by classics I mean hot pink and leopard. As was discussed on our Instagram yesterday, leopard is a neutral–and I believe that a great pair of leopard shoes will take you far in life. Shop similar to hers HERE .
Jacket {Similar Here and HERE} | Lace Top {Similar} | Necklace {Similar}
My dinner outfit involved some pieces that I fall back on for dressier occasions. A lace top, mine is old but I linked a current one HERE, another one the that has gotten rave reviews is HERE. I have come to love having a basic leather jacket for nighttime events, especially in the Fall and Spring, here is one in pink hue similar to mine, or I linked some others above. I have gotten so much use out of mine, it was a find at a local boutique last year but there are such good sales on these jackets right now I am considering adding another one to my collection in a darker color.
Our following day was filled with classes by industry experts. It was fascinating to learn about what the next trends will be {Spoiler: we will see more blue in decor among other things, something I don’t hate at all!} and all sorts of other trends and insights to help all of us who showcase home decor. It was a long day filled with learning and getting to know the other influencers, by the end our brains were chock full of new information as we headed out to catch our planes and trains home.
Tunic Top {or less HERE} | Boots | Scarf | Necklace | Bracelet (similar)
Christy went with bold color in her outfit, which when you have KILLER boots really anything goes, doesn’t it? Here is a close up of the boots {she said Santa brought them for her this year} so you can admire them, she is quite lucky that they didn’t find themselves in my suitcase when all was said and done ?}
I have also already ordered myself that necklace {I picked pink}, it is so fun and will be perfect to dress up spring outfits. Shop the pink color HERE.
Pink Blouse | Sweater | Pants | Boots
I went with more of a neutral look for our day of meetings. I found this top at Nordstrom just before the trip and fell hard. Even though I don’t wear much pale pink there was something about the drape of this {so forgiving!} and the pretty pale color that I knew I’d wear it long into spring. It was cold, rainy and dreary in NYC so I threw on a fur-lined sweater vest over it and paired it with gray booties; the sweater and pants I wore are from Stitch Fix and you can see all about them in this post HERE.
I already wore the blouse again, last night for date night, so I snapped a quick picture so you could see the way it drapes, I think it is so pretty and feminine.
It was truly a whirlwind trip but such a great learning experience. We are so lucky we get to do many of the things we do via this blog and are especially grateful to work with wonderful people like the HomeGoods team. Be sure you are following their Pinterest Design boards to see all that their influencer team is sharing!
