I am proud to be a HomeRight Brand Ambassador. While I am given products to try and am compensated for my time, all of my opinions are 100% my own.
The good news is that I’m making progress in almost every room of our new house. The bad news is that I’m making progress in all of them at once, so none of them are really “finished.” But Annabelle’s room is the closest to being done!
If you read this post a few weeks ago, you saw all of the before shots and my plan for decorating her room. To refresh your memory, here’s what we started with:
and this:
It’s a great space with a beautiful cathedral ceiling and an oversized chandelier. However, there’s only one window and I felt like the warm paint color (“Rabbit” by Pittsburgh Paints) was making the room overly dark. Plus, if you’ve seen my daughter’s bedroom in our previous houses, you know that she’s a light and bright kind of girl.
My awesome landlady, Camie, actually came to help me paint. She cut in the edges for me while I pulled out my HomeRight PaintStick and got to work.
The PaintStick is the bomb for big rooms like this; you don’t have to climb up and down the ladder a hundred times to reload your roller with paint. You just suck the paint up into the barrel of the PaintStick and continue to push the paint out of the handle and into the roller as you need more.
I also feel like the PaintStick gives me better coverage than a traditional roller; I only used one coat of Sherwin Williams Sea Salt to cover the darker Rabbit color. Usually it takes me two coats for a job like this.
When the handle is full of paint, it also serves as a great extension rod for rolling all the way up to the top of the wall–perfect for rooms with high or cathedral ceilings!
Clean up when you’re done is easy enough; just use soap and water to rinse it clean of paint. I will admit that I toss the rollers instead of washing them–I do that with regular rollers, too. Since replacements are only a few dollars, it’s worth it to save the time.
So, here’s how it looks now:
We switched her old bed for the queen we had in our guest room. She has friends sleep over all the time and this just seemed easier. So now we have a guest room/craft room with a twin bed in it, and our “real” guest room has another queen in it.
As usual, most of the accessories in Annabelle’s room are ballet-related. She’s actually away for two weeks at a ballet intensive (aka camp) as I type. Some of her usual throw pillows are missing since she took them with her!
We decided not to put a ballet barre in her room (or elsewhere in the house) this time. She spends 20+ hours a week at the studio so I figure she doesn’t have time to dance at home!
Her nightstand usually isn’t this neat, either. I’d rather have it messy and have her home.
If you have a preteen then you probably know that room décor can be a delicate negotiation. We both love the aqua with pops of pink and coral, but we still have to balance Annabelle’s love of trinkets and stuffed animals with the fact that too many of them just look cluttered. Fortunately, she’s got lots of closet space to store her treasures and she has a great eye!
Her desk is waiting for another makeover so that’s why it’s not ready for a closeup yet…she’s hoping I’ll replace it with a more modern one and that time may be close.
Like I said, it’s almost done…her loveseat is still being cleaned and repaired from our move damage so that’s why it’s not in the room. And we’re still working on her bookcase (it was also damaged in the move) and the wall to the right of the door. But in the meantime, she’s so happy to have “her” nest decorated and ready to enjoy in our new home.
And now, as promised, here’s your chance to win a HomeRight Paint Stick for your summer DIY projects. Good luck!

Christy, just checked out your wteisbe. How cool! This is the crazy lady you sat next to on the plane to San Diego about a week ago. Got my marine home safe and sound and didn’t freak out too bad on the flight home. Went on a trolley on the Old Town tour. Great fun. Just wanted to thank you for distracting me from the plane ride. It was great meeting you. Hope you have a bountiful harvest this year. Can’t wait for spring. Darcy
