Monogrammed Swim Suit for My Tween Girl

I’ve been drooling over the cute bandeau-style monogrammed bathing suits I’ve been seeing this summer (Jane.com had one a few weeks ago, although I didn’t buy one and probably should have).  My daughter’s been drooling over them, too, but she’s a girls’ size 8 and ladies’ sizes don’t have a prayer of fitting her unless she wraps them three times around her little self!  Where there’s a will, there’s a way, so we decided to find one that would work for her.

I looked around for swimsuits that had the right kind of top and colors so that I could add a monogram for her, and I decided on the one you see above–and below– from Target.  The link to buy it online is {here}.  Or, as long as you find a one- or two-piece bathing suit that has a flat top, suitable for monogramming, you can do the same thing with whichever suit your tween prefers.  This three-piece set was about $19, and I love that it’s got two different tops, because she can wear the bandeau bikini top to the pool and the tankini top to the beach–it’s good to have that belly covered when you’re boogie-boarding!

The purple and aqua color combination didn’t give me a ton of flexibility for monogramming, so I went with purple on the bandeau top and white on the tankini top.  We have a local store that will sew a monogram of this size (about 2″ high) for $6.  She loves them both, and I got all three pieces for less than a monogrammed swimsuit from a boutique!

Can you tell that I’m a polka dot and stripes girl?   There’s a reason for it, beyond aesthetics, though.  Florals and bolt prints are trickier to monogram, but two-colored suits will set off a monogram in a third, contrasting color.  While I chose all one-pieces to show you here, there are plenty of tankinis out there with flat tops that will easily take a monogram.  Bikini tops are harder to find, but they’re out there, too.  At this time of year, when (strangely) bathing suits are going on clearance sale, you can stock up inexpensively for next year!

And the rule still holds: you can pretty much monogram ANYTHING!
