Late Summer Favorites

I am starting to see things about fall decor, and fall fashion and pumpkin-spice this and that, but I am not really there yet. I am calling today’s post “late summer favorites”, some things for the time of the year when we are all a little weary of the heat and humidity, but not quite into full blown Fall. It is definitely still summer here in Virginia.

Some of these things I have had tucked away in my head to share for a while, so they aren’t all truly summer things. I know I get tired of the same summer clothes by this time in the year so I wanted to share a few transitional type items that are appropriate for days when it’s still too warm for jeans and sweaters, and I am sharing some other fun home finds.

The former owner of our new home had good taste, so I have been enjoying her mail that isn’t getting forwarded and have found some lovely new clothing lines from her catalogs. One of those is The White Company. I was engrossed by the beautiful catalog and fell for both the clothes (especially the cashmere) and enjoyed seeing the styling of the home items. I am eying these beautiful embroidered Adeline bed shams, a luxury for sure, but the stitching is so pretty. You can shop the whole site here, so many beautiful things.

I found myself in White House Black Market the other day, a store I used to buy clothes from quite often. I made a mental note of two items that I am considering adding to my wardrobe. I loved this tweed blazer, they had it on a mannequin paired with distressed jeans and it looked great, as well as the pretty green silk dress (above). I don’t necessarily need either item, but if I had a special occasion coming up I’d definitely add the dress to my closet. The blazer is such a classic with its timeless style I can see using it for years to come.

For the last year or so I have been collecting Julie Vos jewelry, it’s carried by several small retailers near me that I like to patronize, so recently I was able to see and try on some of the new Fall pieces. All the pieces are at a reasonable price point for jewelry, I am sharing a few of my favorite items are below if you want to start your own collection.

This floral top has fall vibes but is still lightweight enough for warm days. It would work with white jeans now and regular jeans later too, and it’s on sale. I think the sleeve detail is really cute, and so are the ruffles.

I could write a whole post on Amazon favorites, being in this new house I feel like I have been on an ordering spree as we try to get systems in place here. I have a few things worth mentioning, albeit a very random collection, beginning with this awesome clothing and furniture Lint Removal Tool. I had seen the ads for these, so I bought an inexpensive one from Amazon to try to remove some of our cavalier, Auggie’s, hair from our gray velvet chairs. Holy moly, it worked amazing! So much better than anything else I have tried (including a lint brush, packing tape and even a battery operated lint remover), at less than $10 this tool is super useful.

I also added a rechargeable lighted make up mirror in our bathroom where the light isn’t so great. This was easy to install and doesn’t require one of the two plugs that serve the entire space. It plugs in a like a phone and the charge lasts for weeks (as long as you remember to turn it off) and has several settings for different lights. This is the one I have.

We’re still waiting for construction to begin on our patio, but as soon as it’s done I plan to order two of these planters. In the Fall I’ll fill them with mums and at the holidays, small trees. I like the upscale, formal styling of these and think they will work well with this home.

I have also been adding to my outdoor entertaining collection in anticipation of our new patio and cooler weather. These napkins caught my eye at just $10 for a set of four (I ordered two!), they coordinate with just about any tablecloth and they have a pretty lace edging.

The Bliss Throws are on sale again at Nordstrom, they make perfect gifts. My husband and I use our Solo Stove almost every weekend evening now, and we were just saying wanted to have some nice throws on hand for evenings when the weather is cooler. I immediately thought of these (they are a long-time favorite) and ordered a few in navy to use outdoors. We already have several so now we have a few more for guests.

I’ll be back with more house updates in my next post, this was a week of major progress with painting in the basement and more kitchen planning, and most exciting we knocked out a powder room makeover (well, not we, a contractor friend did it for us in two days), I just have to settle on wallpaper, I’ll share more on it all soon.

XO,
