Terry and I have been busy, busy bees this summer working on the items we scored a few weeks ago at a local estate sale. We were giddy with our bargain finds, but I am not sure we thought through all the work we were going to have ahead of us during what is supposed to be the lazy days of summer!
Not to worry, as a few weeks ago both of our husbands were out of town at the same time, so we had “project” week. We painted furniture most of the day, rewarded the kids with a trip to the pool in the afternoon, then met back at one another’s house for dinner and a hard-earned glass of wine each night. It was really fun and we have quite a bit to show for our “work” week.
Here is the first project we have to share. This very large chalkboard started its life as an oil painting. We were more interested in the frame then the painting, knowing it had amazing potential.
I have always wanted a large chalkboard in my dining room, I even built my own in my last house.
The painting measured a whopping 52″ high by 28″ wide and we finished the decorative frame with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Pure White. We painted over the painting {after googling the artist to make sure we hadn’t stumbled on a masterpiece, not the case!} with chalkboard paint, several thick coats. The “menu” design we simply chalked on, so it can stay permanently or easily be changed to something else for a different use.
It also can be hung vertically or horizontally.
Here it is again, with a peak at my newly painted dining room chairs– Yes, there has been a whole LOT of paintin’ going on round here!
