How You Can Help Us Help Texas

Friends, I am popping in tonight with a quick post regarding the recent post-hurricane flooding in Texas. I have had a long day but even though it is late I wanted to share this story with you.

If you follow us on Instagram then you know that my brother and his family live in Houston, in one of the areas hit hardest by Hurricane Harvey. My brother spent the early part of this week on his boat {see him above, his arm is in a cast from a recent surgery}, working with the fire department to assist those that were stranded as the water rose. Thankfully their home was spared but they know so many people who have lost everything.

My brother and his wife shared a story with us that when Christy and I read it, we decided we wanted to share it with all of you. My brother received this text below from a friend, his friend and wife lost their home in the storm. They have a young family including a four-month-old baby.

As a small token of support, my brother’s family is collecting donations to help this young family get back on their feet and lift up them during this terrible time. Christy and I decided that we’d share their story in case any of you wanted to donate to help them as well.

If you would like to make a small donation to help this young family, you may PayPal it to admin@11magnolialane.com or use this link. {edit: we have completed our fundraising effort as of this morning, if you feel inclined to give please reach out to the American Red Cross or Samaritan’s Purse.}  THANK YOU, THANK YOU everyone!!!

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts, and God bless Texas.

Amy (& Christy)

Amy, thank you for sharing one small story from the devastation here in my state. ALthough in Dallas, we have many friends in the Houston area ~ so far everyone is safe, but varying degrees of damage. I can tell you that the local outpouring has been nothing but God~Sent. One of the first evacuation centers is not far from my house and when I took a car full of needed items the other day, they were actually turning away some items because they were overwhelmed. Our church has 600 volunteers coming tomorrow to pack food for victims and afterCare buckets for helping people clean up their homes. I’m so happy that your brother is safe. And again thanks for sharing. Texas will rise!

Huge thanks to both of you for doing this! Amy, I’m so very grateful that your brother is ok!! It is heartbreaking to see such devastation and loss. Can you even imagine losing *everything*…house, all belongings, clothes, car, you name it! The area where my son used to live in Cypress is total devastation! Most of the houses in that community were 2 levels, huge trees, etc. Those houses now are in water past the 1st level and more. I have contributed via my Church and, if not retired, would be more than happy to give here. Prayers will continue for all those affected, including your brother and family.

As a Texas girl who grew up 10 miles from Beaumont and 90 miles from Houston now living in Louisiana, I can’t tell you how much I’ve cried these last few days watching the devastation of this storm. friends and family in Houston and Beaumont are displaced because of Harvey and it breaks my heart. The effects of this storm will be long-lasting but not as long-lasting as the stories of strength of those Texans who came together to help one another no matter race, religion, or lifestyle. Harvey should have listened when we say DON’T MESS WITH TEXAS!

Thank you Leiah, you are so right that Texas will come back strong. So many amazing stories have come out of this week, what a wonderful example of strength and solidarity for the rest of the world. Take care, Amy

THANK YOU so much for doing this! We are giving money to general efforts, of course, but it’s so nice to be able to give a little bit to help in a very specific instance. Bless you organizing this effort and sharing this family’s story with such sensitivity. May we all respond as best we can!
