Hello, I know it’s been awhile since you have heard from me, Christy has done a great job keeping things rolling here. I wanted to drop back in here today with a brief post about our new home updates.
While we’ve made significant progress on the renovation projects we planned upon moving in, I will share with you all that our family has recently come into a very hard season. For that reason, I have pulled back from posting on this blog as we navigate some unexpected, and sometimes overwhelming, challenges. I hope to return to sharing more regularly in the future, but it’s been hard to summon the energy and desire to talk about things like home decorating in the midst of it all. I do miss this space as a creative outlet, it has nurtured me for all these years through illness and other challenges, but right now my focus is elsewhere. I am confident in that as “all things work together for good” (Romans 8:28), I am holding on to the knowledge that we will be lifted out of this season soon. I must also share that having Christy in the same area these last two months has been nothing short of a gift from God, He definitely knew I’d need her to lean on during this time!
OK, so here is the quick update on all the construction projects we’ve had going on, these have been both a needed distraction while being bit overwhelming all at the same time. Our kitchen is currently gutted and awaiting the new cabinets, counters and appliances. I snapped this (sorry, messy!) shot the night before they started for one final look at the home’s original kitchen. I am excited that in a few weeks it will be a bright, white space. If you missed our plans you can read more here.
Above is a look at the cabinet color and style, the flooring sample is on the right and the countertop piece is at the bottom. I still need to go select the final countertop slab, but we’re planning on white/pearl quartzite that looks like marble without the maintenance.
This space deserves a much longer post of its own, but our basement rec room (above) is also now complete (see plans and get sources in this post). Here is a quick look at the fireplace area, can you believe how far it’s come? I shared the picture below just a few months ago. My favorite part is the mantel over the fireplace that came from my childhood home. My dad built it with wood from my grandfather’s farm, he saved it for years and I am so happy to now have it hanging in this house!
Finally, our patio is also finished. It’s been an absolute joy to have this space, especially at this time of year with the leaves beginning to change. It’s the perfect spot for a fire on chilly evenings. We have both a solo stove (for when we want a real fire) and just added a propane fire table too. It still needs furniture and landscaping, but it’s been so wonderful to have this outdoor space now that it is fall.
I do hope to share more of all these projects and the updated spaces in the future. I’ll wrap up by saying how sad I am to see Christy head on to their next destination, I have so enjoyed having her here these last two months, if you missed some of the fun things we did together, she recapped them here and here.
