Hi everyone, I hope you had a great holiday weekend!
We are getting really close to the completion of our new house, now that we are just a few weeks away from closing it seems like this interim construction period has flown by. I didn’t feel that way in the dead of winter but now that it’s close to done I can’t quite believe the time is almost here. The final stages are moving very quickly so I thought I’d share a few pictures of how it has been coming along. I know construction pictures aren’t pretty, hopefully soon I’ll have pictures to share of all the spaces completed, I hope to do a full tour just prior to moving in.
I have begun the process of cleaning out, donating, decluttering in our current home and then, of course, replacing all those things with new items! I am trying to not order anything big until it can be delivered directly to the new house after we close, but I already have an online shopping cart or two ready to go with some new finds (see more below!). Our new house is very different in style from our former house, which was more traditional. This house has more of a craftsman feel so I am keeping that in mind with our new purchases. I already blogged about our master bedroom and some other new decor if you missed those posts.
I admit that I haven’t been giving regular construction updates because, as is to be expected with constructing a new home, there have been a few blips recently. The team doing the building has been fabulous but we’ve had a few external issues that have left me wondering if we’ll actually close on this property. I am hoping it’s all righting itself now, and I plan to leave it all in God’s hands, but it has been a little stressful to say the least.
{My Mom’s cute summer bag on the island is HERE, she came to see the house today too!}
I have also been frustrated with, and I knew this would be a struggle using a production builder, the quality of some of the finishes going in the home. This is particularly the case with the tile in the bathrooms that we paid extra for. I am now very glad that we opted to keep many of standard builder options in the kitchen, and we will just upgrade things ourselves with better quality materials over time.
No, we don’t have blue granite! We had the standard granite counter installed for the time being (it’s just a basic gray, the protective plastic is blue), but we hope to expand the island, add a quartz countertop and new sink at some point soon, maybe even within the first year. We will also add extra cabinets in the breakfast room so we can customize those ourselves, and be swapping out all the light fixtures for ones with more character and ones that are more ‘me’. The ones in the photos here are just the standard ones that the builder installs. I should do a post just on the lighting, I have been looking at lights online until my eyes have glazed over, I swear it is the hardest part!
This is a quick pic of what will be our kids’ bathroom, it was an easy choice to go with classic white subway tile in here. I just ordered this fun shower curtain for this bathroom (and it’s on sale!). Since this will be a co-ed space, I ordered blush pink towels for my daughter but will stick with classic black and white towels (still hunting for those) and accessories for my son’s side.
I found some other fun finds at the Nordstrom Anniversary sale, I ordered this for a soap dish (above) for my daughter in this bathroom (I don’t think it is meant to be used that way, but why not? Or she can store jewelry in it). I also think this blue and white runner will be perfect in my new kitchen. The sale has a ton of great gift ideas especially if you have weddings coming up, now is the time to stock up! How fun is this lemon tray? Also, I am pretty sure that I am giving Christy this tray for her next birthday, how cute (and how her?) is it!?!
This (below) is still one of my favorite parts of this house, the large mudroom with the attached walk-in pantry. Someday those wire shelves will be history, but for now, they will hold a ton of food and extra dishes.
We’re heading into the home stretch with our move, my kids are finishing up school this week and we’re starting to box stuff up (thankfully we didn’t really fully unpack since we’ve been in this rental for such a short time) and make all our final plans, so it is getting very exciting around here 🙂

This is exciting, Amy! ???? I can’t wait to see the entire house and what you do with it. I wish you the best with the move…almost makes me break out in hives to think of moving again! ???????? Of course, this will be a “happy” move for your family.
