I am circling back today to my DIY kitchen shelves project because we have another fabulous HomeRight FinishMax Pro Sprayer to give away AND we wanted to kick of the Bookcase Challenge which starts July 1 HERE. {Keep reading to enter the giveaway, the form is at the bottom of the post}.

If you missed it, these kitchen shelves {above} are my entry into the HomeRight Bookcase Challenge along with the other IKEA bookcase “hacks” done in June by all the HomeRight Ambassadors. Voting is now live on the HomeRight page–you can vote for your favorite IKEA bookcase project and if it’s not mine, that is OK, because there are some insanely creative projects from some top DIY bloggers in this competition. It’s just amazing to see what a little IKEA bookcase can be turned into with a little paint and creativity! Plus, HomeRight is going to giveaway an awesome prize pack to one lucky voter of a Finish Max, Rapid Clean and a Spray Shelter so please go vote!

15207 ART IKEA Bookcase Challengesmall,
Here is a quick refresher is you missed my first post on the shelves. HomeRight sent each of us a plain, Billy bookcase to makeover into something else pretty and functional. I decided to tackle a project in our kitchen to fill some unused space and create some extra storage using the challenge bookcase along with two others {one exactly the same, and one more narrow}, then I just trimmed them out to make them look built-in.

The picture below shows how they all fit together under the overhang to create the shelves.

With some paint then some trim, below shows them all finished up. The extra kitchen storage is great and the whole area looks so much better.

I started this project {and so many others–see more HERE} by spraying the shelves with my HomeRight Finish Max Pro. This paint sprayer makes a painting project simple and easy and gives a perfect finish every time. Painting all these bookcases by hand would have taken hours, a quick spray and they all were the same color that will eventually match our kitchen cabinets {which are also going to be painted with the sprayer as part of our ongoing kitchen makeover…stay tuned!}.

  1. Loved your project..entered and voted…great giveaway!

  2. Hi. Loved your makeover – obviously voted for you! BTW – did you also paint the side panel (left side, sort of behind the new bookcase), or did you add a new white-panel over it?
P.S. So sorry to see what the movers did to you! I know you’ll find even better ways to make your new home wonderful, but still … so sad to see.

  3. I found your site because of the bookcase challenge. Yours was hands down the best one so obviously I voted for you. And then followed a few links until I found your blog. Love it! I’ll be enjoying it from now on.
