It’s been awhile since we had a Friday Free for All, which is kind of the dealer’s choice of blog posts, so I figured it was time. Welcome to a potpourri of what’s been going on around here in North Carolina!
First off, Thursday was National Margarita Day (ok, and also George Washington’s birthday, but there are no fun drinks associated with that, although maybe there should be). I was serendipitously scheduled for a Mexican lunch already with friends Kelli and Danielle, so we felt honor-bound to partake. Cheers!
Did you notice my really long and pretty thumbnail? I’ve been drinking bulletproof coffee for the last six weeks and I think the scoop of collagen that I put in it every morning is the reason that my hair and nails are growing so quickly.
{Bulletproof Coffee: 1 cup coffee, 1 tablespoon ghee, 1 t. cinnamon, 1 t. maca root powder, 1 scoop collagen peptides}
In somewhat related news, Connor and I have been doing Whole30 since the New Year–we did the full 30 days and now we’re mostly on the wagon but not quite as hard core. This steak salad that I whipped up one night was amazing:
It’s lettuce, peppers, caramelized onions, mushrooms, grape tomatoes, and of course, steak. I made ranch dressing from homemade mayo and spices and it was a perfect Whole30 meal. I have a more “formal” recipe that’s similar {here}. Give it a try–two thumbs up!
I have a new weekender bag, in my favorite color path (navy and white stripes!). It’s the perfect size and has tons of neat pockets, and it’s only $34.99.

In other shopping news, this super-soft cardigan is on sale for under $28 shipped and it comes in gray or–wait for it–navy! Size down if you’re in between sizes.

I’m about to buy my first pair of Rothy’s shoes; as most of you know, ballet flats are part of my daily uniform. More than one friend has raved about how comfortable they are, so I’m going to order a pair and will post a review for you guys. Meanwhile, I’ve got a link for you {here}; you save $20 and I save $20.
Which should I get first, the cherry red round toe or the marigold yellow pointy toe? (My friend says that the round toe is pretty much true to size but you should size up 1/2 size on the pointed toe)
I feel much better now that we’re all caught up. Enjoy your weekend–we’re having unseasonably warm weather, but I’ll take it!
Thanks for stopping by~

I have a question about the bullet proof coffee. Does it really work? How long have you been doing it? Can I just order the 3 ingredients and add them to any coffee? (The coffee station at work) or does it have to be a certain kind of coffee?
Christy says
Hey Deb–
Yes, you add the ingredients to any coffee. I just brew a K Cup of whatever and add the ghee, collagen, cinnamon, and maca root. Some people just do the ghee or even butter or coconut oil, but I throw it all in there, so maybe I should call it kitchen sink coffee instead of bulletproof! The collagen has made the biggest difference in my skin, hair, and nails. I noticed it within a few weeks and have been drinking it consistently for about two months.
I started drinking the coffee at the same time that I went on the Whole30 diet and have felt amazing since, but I can’t really tell you if it’s because of the coffee or because I’m eating so clean. Probably mostly the eating, but like I said, the collagen has definitely made a difference.
I hope that helps. Let me know if you have any more questions!
