Fall Deck Makeover {on a budget!}

As we work through project after project on our new home, our outside space has definitely not been given much love. We have a large deck off the back of the house, but we haven’t really decided what we will do with the space in the future–I am hoping the screen porch fairy will appear one of these years soon :). Once the nice weather hit this spring, I decided I had to do something to make the space more usable and enjoyable but I just wasn’t ready to commit to new furniture. After having it almost empty for most of the year since we’ve lived here, I decided to re-purpose our wicker furniture from our previous screen porch to tide us over until we make some more permanent decisions.

summer deck

This wicker furniture was gray on our last screen porch but since there is not much spray paint can’t do, I freshened it up with some glossy black Rust-Oleum spray paint. A few coats of paint and it looks practically new and it has held up great in the elements even though this wicker is not designed specifically to be outdoors. I am amazed at the transformation! For summer I mixed in bright green pillows along with the black and white.

I have had several “Fall” inspired blog projects going on behind the scenes these last few weeks, and while I don’t want to push summer out the door, last week I retired the bright green and mixed in some neutral pillows giving the space a new life for the coming cooler season.

Some fall mums replaced our withering summer plants and with the addition of a fun, outdoor rug {sources listed at end} the space now feels ready for cooler temperatures. I purchase inexpensive pillow covers and have quite the collection now in all sorts of colors, which makes it easy to update my decor seasonally {we store these in a deck box when we aren’t out here}. Outside of the cost of plants and spray paint this was essentially a free makeover.

I am always amazed at what spray paint can do. Furniture such as this is readily available on Craig’s List so if you are looking for an easy way to update your outside space for a small budget this is a great way to go. A few fall touches, and the space feels refreshed for the season.

    Amy I love how you freshened up your patio furniture. The whole set up is very inviting. How simple to change the feel by simply changing out the pillow covers!

    I love how versatile that deck furniture is. Just a couple pillows and maybe a vase or a flowerpot can totally change the entire color scheme. It looks really good! I wish we had a deck.

    I absolutely love this furniture! I am especially a fan of the black and white design. It would be so nice to have somewhere like this to sit outside and read. Hopefully I can get my deck looking this good one day.

    Good weather makes me want to just spend all of my time outside. If I had the outdoor furniture that you have, there would be nothing stopping me, either! I’ll have to go out and do some cheap outdoor furniture shopping to find me some good deals!
