I recently made a much-needed update to the lamps our hallway console. These buffet lamps provide nice light in our hallway but the shades had definitely seen better days. When I had the fortunate opportunity to try out a lampshade kit from I Like That Lamp {actually, the creator of these kits, Kiri, was nice enough to send me two kits so I could style both of these lamps} I knew they would be perfect for these little lights.
Here they are before, pretty traditional white shades and just boring.
I made the lampshades with leftover Ballard Designs fabric using the I Like That Lamp kits. I originally ordered the fabric during my office makeover. I recovered the seat of this chair {below} but I still had enough left to cover both lampshades so I certainly got my money’s worth out of a yard of fabric. {You can see my office space HERE}.
Ballard makes a similar shade but I saved a ton of money by making my own, and it was so easy using the kit.
It comes with everything that you need to cover a lampshade–which you can size to whatever size you need–and it’s really easy to do. I made both shades in less than an hour using everything that came in this darling little package. You just attach the fabric to the adhesive plastic and glue it to the rings, the instructions were easy to follow and everything you need is in the box {except fabric}, even the clips to hold it together while drying.
A side note: isn’t their branding cute? Anything that comes sealed with washi tape has to be good right? And, I love that you can use any fabric you have to create a lampshade, the possibilities are endless really and you can completely customize it to your decor.
I think this hallway space is finally done, which is good because I have about a million other projects going in our house right now. It’s pretty much a construction zone between our bookcases being under construction and our kitchen makeover starting up. I’ll be back soon to update on all that.
In the meantime, if you want to make creative lampshades to match your decor be sure to check out I like that lamp! It’s a great project and I love to see creative entrepreneurs helping those of us who want to not just make things for our homes but also our own spin on them, so bravo Kiri!
Thanks for stopping by!

H! I love your lampshades and chair seat cover!! I have custom pillow covers and custom chair slipcovers in this same Dodie Beige fabric. It is the most chic print but it also at home in any room, as it is very versatile. I too bought the fabric by the yard and it was well worth the money. I was able to even get it on sale.
