I broke new ground this year and did not decorate inside my house for Fall–I know, my home decor blogger card is going to be revoked! Christy did a lovely job with her Fall home tour and you can see our Fall Home Tour from last year HERE so this year I decided I wanted to do something different for this time of year.
Instead I decorated mainly for Halloween. I just used some black and white items along with other simple decor. While I love a house filled with pumpkins and dried flowers and all the other pretty fall things, I think I am getting sentimental as my kids are getting big and we don’t have many years left to do the whole Halloween “thing”. So this year I decided we’d be all in!
My daughter is still young enough to be really into Halloween. In fact, she’s (ok, we’re) planning a party the day for her friends. That I might be just as excited about as she is 🙂
I got a head start on the Halloween party decor with this tablescape. Adding black and white decor with a few pumpkins thrown in is as easy as it gets. Things I use seasonally like a black and white table runner and buffalo check napkins get brought out again and worked into the mix. Plain white plates, some velvet pumpkins, and small orange decorative leaves (aren’t they cute?) complete the look. (Sources at end)
I jazzed up this simple Hobby Lobby “Boo to You” sign with some striped ribbon and hung it on my hutch. Inside the hutch, I swapped out the blue and white summery plates for more fall-like items (ok, so I guess I did decorate a little for fall here and there). A few things like a copper pumpkin, a small sign and some brown floral plates (all from HomeGoods) change the look inside the hutch entirely.
Most of the fun Halloween items from Adams & Company, I fell in love with all their themed holiday decor. It may be a little over the top, but I hope my kids remember the fun of holidays and that we made the most of them.
How cute is the “Too Ghoul for School” sign! The black and white vase was what caught my eye in the first place, it’s perfect for this table but I know I’ll use it many times again at other times of year. With classic black and white you can’t go wrong.
I got a little crafty and cut out some black paper bats for the blank wall by the table. I plan to hang some open shelves there soon but will probably wait until after the holidays. I think a larger sign hanging over the table will be fun at Christmas. For now, some black paper and scissors jazzed up the blank wall.
Here are some wider shots of the kitchen breakfast area. I haven’t shown the whole kitchen too much here because 1) it’s almost always a mess and 2) we do have some updates we hope to make. Our range, while new just last year is just builder grade and honestly, it’s terrible! I have had two failed dinner parties because I simply could not get the meat cooked! So I am saving for a better quality range to avoid that type of embarrassment ever again.
The other small fall touch is this tray on our island. I added this cute “Let’s Cuddle” sign, isn’t it fun? I usually have it on my coffee bar but moved it over here for this display.
I also have BIG plans for our front porch, hopefully, we’ll start that this weekend. Our neighborhood is filled with kids so it gets Halloween crazy around here. Last year our street was still under too much construction so we didn’t get any trick or treaters but this year is going to be a whole different story. I have a vision in my head of how I want to decorate it, we’ll see if I can pull it off!
