My daughter came home from five weeks away at her ballet intensive and she spent most of last weekend eating and catching up with friends. Then we rolled right into her thirteenth birthday with a Lilly-themed pool party for just a few dear school friends.
| Italian soda bar | Tray: HomeGoods |
Her birthday is just three days apart from her friend, Josey, so we combined the celebration. I whipped up some digital invitations:
| Customized treat bag toppers | Gumballs in pink and green |
Josey’s mom, my talented friend Ashly, monogrammed notebooks and macaron boxes for the girls, too, and found the pineapple earrings in the above picture (they were $1 at Walmart but we dressed them up!).
Heads up: I recently bought my girl a Clarisonic Mia as part of her birthday and wanted to mention that Nordstrom has a super deal on them right now as part of their Anniversary Sale. I’ve had a Mia 2 for a few months now and it has made a huge difference in how soft and smooth my skin feels! I even bought a brush for my husband so he can use it, too. I did a ton of research before I purchased because there are so many off-brands out there that are less expensive, but this one is worth every penny.
I figure thirteen is the perfect age to focus on skincare and beauty from the inside out, don’t you?

I adore a themed party. This was sooooo cute for your daughter (and her friend). It strikes the right tone for a 13-year old: Cute but chic! It looks like it was a great party.

Thanks so much, Michelle! It was a really simple but fun party. They’re almost too old for them (or at least, they THINK they are!) but everyone had a great time–even the moms!

SERIOUSLY? THIS IS ADORABLE! WHAT A FUN THEME FOR 13-YEAR-OLD GIRLS. IT’S AMAZING HOW QUICKLY THE YEARS FLY BY, ISN’T IT?
I WAS VERY BRIEFLY IN SOUTHERN PINES LAST WEEK. . . MADE ME WISH I COULD SEE YOU. HOPE YOUR SUMMER HAS BEEN AWESOME!

Hey, Richella–
Yes, girl, I can hardly believe that my baby is now a teenager! Next thing you know, I’ll be a grandmother!
Next time you’re down in SP please let me know if you have any free time.

Such great party ideas for 13 yr olds! That age seems to be the one that kinda changes everything ~ their likes and dislikes, etc. I pray for you and the coming years! Lol! Seriously, my daughter was, and is, such a great girl but those teen moods can be challenging. I love all the decor! That umbrella rocks! Did one of you make the cupcakes? They’re so pretty and delish I’m sure.
Have an awesome time at Haven and take lots of photos for us!

P.S. My order arrived yesterday ~ perfect as usual! Hopefully, I will remember to take photos of her birthday celebration.

We haven’t hit the teenage moodiness yet, but I remember very well how I was at that age. One of my biggest regrets about that time of my life was how nasty I was to my mom, and I never really apologized as an adult to her. She was graceful and gracious through the whole thing, so I hope and pray I can be the same!
Ashly made the cupcakes–I make yummy cupcakes but they aren’t very pretty. Ashly can do both. 🙂
Hope you had a lovely weekend. So glad your order made it safely.

where did u find the pineapple? did not see if this was addressed. no girls in our family of youngsters – just boys (7 as of december) . Such a pleasure seeing girl events. love each and every one of those little boys and i think i will use some ideas and punt with the rest. btw, teen moodiness is not just for girls. lyn
Christy says
The pineapple was from Hobby Lobby, in their party aisle(s). I think it was in the luau section! Boy events are fun but girl ones are better. 🙂
XO,
Christy
PS I have a teenage boy, too, so I know what you mean about moodiness!
