Earlier this summer my friend Karla asked me to help out with ideas for organizing and decorating her home office turned craft room. Craft Rooms are among my favorite types of projects, so I was happy to help.
When I arrived, she admitted that they were mostly using the space for storage but she was ready to make it functional. She wanted a space to create in, to scrapbook, sew, and do art and craft projects. Her home is gorgeous, this room is definitely the last room they needed to tackle. Here are some “before” images to show where she was at the beginning of this project.
And here {Drumroll!} after all the talking, planning, organizing, decorating and painting are the “AFTER” pictures…
She started by moving her furniture around, creating a large workspace against the wall seen above. She added a long wood board (which they painted) to create a long counter to work on. All the shelves below it came from Michael’s.
On the wall to the right of next to this space above, she moved the dresser she was using for storage {see below}. She added new hardware to the dresser and some baskets and boxes underneath to add even more craft storage.
The decor inspiration for the room came from the colors in her beautiful rug. She pulled out the creams, light greens and pale corals, using them throughout the room to add color and keep the room unified.
Continuing to the next wall, here she added my favorite part of the room. She purchased and painted the “sister” piece to the cabinet I recently redid HERE {and have since sold to a lovely blog reader}. She also chalk painted the outside of the cabinet in ‘Old White’, and painted the interior ‘Versailles’. Isn’t it gorgeous!?! I already told her I have dibs on it should she ever decide to sell it 🙂
Now for some of my favorite details in the room. She also chalk painted the desk accessories to match in the same “Versailles” green.
And painted and added colorful baskets for fabric on this cute organizer.
She chalk painted these hooks and hung her rulers {so smart!} right at her workspace.
And added a shelf that is not just functional but organized and pretty too.
The best part of this makeover is that she said that having the space has inspired her to do more creative things. Wouldn’t you if you had this lovely space?
Thanks for sharing, Karla and as always, thanks for stopping by!

I love a nicely organized craft room! I just have all my stuff in bins throughout our little apartment, but I would love to have an awesome creative space like this some day.
