A Bedroom Retreat for a Teenage Girl

My daughter and I have been helping one of her friends update her room (did I ever mention that Annabelle is a great organizer and decorator?) while she’s away dancing at the UNC School of the Arts this summer. I’ll be back next week to show you how the room turned out, but today I’m going to share a few shots of how it looked when we started.

It’s a really nice, big room, and so many of the furniture pieces don’t need to be changed out, which helps keep the budget down. My goal is to create a streamlined look that’s elegant enough to transition Juliette from her teenage to young adult years.

The plan is the keep the bookshelves, armoire, desk, tufted headboard, and the denim futon. Since the room was recently painted, we’re going to work with the color (it’s a pretty pale blue, similar to Benjamin Moore’s Pebble Beach, although I don’t have the exact shade).

The little pink nightstand is going to stay, but is going to get a fresh coat of paint and some new drawer pulls.

I’m going to pull the decor together, and Annabelle is going to organize the shelves and closets.

Based on the existing pieces and what we know about Juliette’s sense of style, here’s what we came up with as a design board:

She absolutely loved our ideas, so we’ve been working on the room this past week (she comes home in just a few more days), and we’re almost finished. I’ll take plenty of pictures and will share the transformation–but not until she’s had a chance to see it first!
